New 2012 buzz: Rick Perry thinking of jumping in? (Ready for another Texas Governor as POTUS?)
Hotair ^ | 05/17/2011 | Allahpundit

Posted on 05/17/2011 8:13:35 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

After months of gassy media speculation about Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and Chris Christie, we’re all near the point of dismissing deus-ex-machina rumors about candidates out of hand.

But this one … doesn’t seem so far-fetched.

A Texas pol who is close to Perry has been telling a few key strategists that the nation’s longest-serving governor sees a vacuum and is waiting to be summoned into the race. This source believes that could happen by late summer. Without fellow Southerners Haley Barbour or Mike Huckabee in the race — and with Newt Gingrich’s early troubles raising further doubts about the current lineup — there could be a glaring niche for Perry to fill.

According to another well-connected Republican, at least one Perry confidant has been very quietly making inquiries about the political terrain in the nation’s first voting state of Iowa. A third Perry associate, RCP has learned, has been heralding a small contingent of Iowans with the time-tested line that is often used by would-be candidates who are leaving their options open: “Keep your powder dry.”

Perry’s aides have long made it clear that the tough-talking Texan, who succeeded George W. Bush in Austin in 2000, would not seriously entertain the idea of mounting a White House run before the state’s legislative session finishes at the end of this month. That date is now less than two weeks away, and the 2012 presidential field remains fluid…

Perry’s presidential prospects may ultimately be contingent on the decision made by the only GOP White House hopeful who can boast a resume and home state that is large enough to mess with Texas: former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Perry shares Palin’s dexterity with the simple, tough-talking language that tends to fire up the tea party faithful and is similarly adept at connecting on a human level that comes across as decidedly anti-politician, despite his more than a decade in the governor’s mansion.

His aides strenuously deny it, of course. Still, why not Perry? He has more than a decade of experience leading one of America’s biggest states, can boast economic growth at a moment when voters are desperate for relief from the malaise, would enjoy key regional support as a southerner, has budget-cutting cred to spare that’ll please tea partiers, and flashes enough personality to make him easily stand out at debates against other top-tier candidates like Romney, Pawlenty, and Daniels. If Michele Bachmann is confident enough of her chances in Iowa to run (“This is now beyond speculation. They are doing this.”), Perry might as well give it a go too. His concern, I guess, is that if Palin follows him into the race, she and Bachmann will siphon off enough votes on the right to make a lesser-known name like his unlikely to win any primaries. But to some extent that’s a self-fulfilling prophesy: The surest way for him and other grassroots favorites to discourage Palin from running is to jump in ASAP and start claiming votes (and political operatives in primary states) whom she’d need to boost her chances against the Romney/Pawlenty/Daniels centrists. That’s always been Bachmann’s strategy, I take it, that the surest way to avoid being stomped by Palin among tea partiers is to claim enough of her niche early that she decides to pass on the race. Perry would be even more formidable. But the longer he waits, the riskier it is.

Ed e-mails to say that he’s been expecting Perry to make a national move for a long time now and points to his unusual penchant, as a governor, for engaging on national issues. His candidacy does make a lot of sense. Tick tock.

governor Good Hair needs to stay put. He’s barely tolerable when he’s trying to pretend he’s conservative in Texas.

QUESTIONS PERRY SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO ANSWER

<><> Have you made deals with illegal aliens to exchange campaign cash and votes to use your office to get illegals US govt handouts----free education, EITC, welfare, food stamps, UI, SS, SSI, free healthcare, sub-prime mortgages, subsidized bank loans?

<><> Do you know exchanging gratuities for votes is a felony?

<><> Do you know which identity illegals use to register to vote for you?

July 21, 2006----BERGEN RECORD, NJ

Texans accused of selling counterfeit IDs (impoverished illegals "here for a better life" pay several thousand $$$ for fake ID's)

Pelcastre brothers, Angel and Jorge, Dallas, Texas, were a walking threat to US national security, expert document forgers who, for a few thousand dollars, could give anyone a new identity, NJ L/E authorities said.

The Texas brothers were a "one-stop shop" for a myriad of fake US documents, including birth certificates, Social Security cards, driver's licenses---- for any state in the US------ passports and resident alien cards, said state police.

The Texas brothers turned a NJ hotel room into a business office and were readying a massive cache of fake Social Security cards for delivery to a local NJ identity broker. Officers happened upon two cars bearing Texas plates in a NJ hotel parking lot. Authorities wouldn't identify the NJ hotel by name for fear it would spark retribution. The Drug Interdiction Task Force regularly runs checks.

The Texas brothers were followed to a NJ office supply store nearby where they purchased computer supplies. Officers then followed the Texans to a NJ storage facility in Secaucus, NJ, where the Texans loaded several boxes into a car. One of them stood lookout. Authorities approached the Texas brothers when they returned to the NJ hotel and questioned them separately.

The Texas brothers consented to a search. Police recovered laminating sheets with built-in security features, pages of blank documents waiting for fake names and information, finished documents, computers and software to create the fake IDs. All told, the haul was worth about $500,000 on the street when sold to "impoverished illegals." Police also recovered $6,000 in cash, which was the first payment from a NJ fake document broker for a shipment of 500 phony Social Security cards. ####

Perry is a POLITICIAN. That is all. He is not a conservative, he is not a Republican. He is an opportunist with his ear to the ground.

I agree absolutely with everything you say, and I have no answers as yet. Seems many of us are looking for somebody to ride in on that mythical white horse.

There are no perfect candidates, and I know whoever I eventually back will not agree with me on everything. Moreover, no President can foresee what challenges his term will endure. Therefore, character, courage, and conservative values, and a respect for the Constitution are more important to me than talking points on issues.

Experience and administrative experience matter, too, with a track record of doing, not just saying. Therefore, I want to hear from those who have lived under Pawlenty and Daniels before I make my mind up about them. They both seem to be authentic and effective, but I’m watching from afar.

Our field is too thin.

that would certainly explain why he has been pretending to be conservative since his re-election. Normally he’d have switched back to his normal liberal self by now.

Rick Perry is a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN unlike Barry Soetoro aka Barack Hussein Obama.

Not according to the "Republic of Texas" wackjobs, who maintain that, due to some paperwork foul up, The Republic of Texas never actually joined the Union, and thus Texas is not one of the several states, but still an independent nation. That was not an issue with either President Bush, bot of whom were born in New England.

Get ready for Birtherism II.

“Our field is too thin.”

1,000% spot on! Dangerously thin. That's why I even mention Perry.

Pawlenty is for Ethanol subsidies and believe in global warming, two issues that directly effect American economics and security. Plus he didn't exactly cover himself in glory during the Coleman/Stuart Smalley Senate theft.

Daniels looks like he's done some good things in IN, so that's a big positive. The FReepers I know from IN generally seem to like him.

“Seems many of us are looking for somebody to ride in on that mythical white horse.”

Looking at the announced folks, at this point I'd take a 3 legged spotted cow, so long as it could walk straight.

Milt? Newt? Dear God, PLEASE, NO!!!

!!!!! Hey if that's true, I say, seal the borders on the north and south. Send all illegals to where ever they came from. Turn off all the gas lines off at the north border. Let Perry become the President of the Republic of Texas.

Secret WikiLeaks Document Confirms North American Union Plan

May 18, 2011

For Continental Release

CONTACT: Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC)
(866) 703-0864 Press@alipac.us

A secret document recently released by WikiLeaks reveals a high level US ambassador promoting a merger of the United States, Canada, and Mexico into one combined consumer and labor market, with a common currency and a mutual electronic security perimeter with less focus on physical borders.

The secret documents reveal a well developed plan that advocates secrecy, an incremental approach as not to alarm the public. The document clearly states, that the plan is to prevent US efforts to protect citizens from terrorism or disease from interfering with commerce and other financial interests. The documents also advocate that promotion of this plan focus on “individual firms, industries or travelers, and
especially consumers” instead of the nations as a whole.

This high level leak appears to validate earlier concerns by many groups of plans to create a new government, which would supersede the sovereignty of America, Canada, and Mexico in a way similar to the European Union. Critics of these merger plans call the plan the North American Union. Supporters of the plan call it the North American Community or North American Integration (NAI).

“It is conspiracy, but it is no theory,” said William Gheen of ALIPAC. “These traitors are trying to conceal their plans, but they are out in the open now. They are trying to force an economic union on America that is not ratified by the US Congress, not authorized by the US Constitution, and not approved of by the American public. This plan is being facilitated by the nonenforcement of our existing immigration and border laws.”

Americans were shocked to learn in 2005 and 2006 that millions of illegal aliens had been imported into America and were now marching in the streets demanding legalization, citizenship, voting rights, and taxpayer resources. Federal lawmakers loyal to the North American Integration plans have claimed “our immigration systems are broken” when in fact the immigration systems have been compromised by those advocating a merger of the populations of America, Mexico, and Canada.

Other examples of this economic union plan which has been pursued by Presidents Bush and Obama, can be found in the writings of Dr. Robert Pastor of American University, in releases by the Council on Foreign Relations such as “Building a North American Community,” and in announcements made by heads of state in all three countries supporting the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP).

“North American integration requires American disintegration. Americans would never voluntarily enter into this devilish arrangement that would disintegrate the United States beneath a larger super state; and a new government which would destroy the existing US Constitution and borders,” said William Gheen. “This is why these elite banking, business, and political influences are flooding America with rampant illegal immigration and hyper legal immigration. They are conquering the freedom-loving innocent citizens of America by bringing in outsiders who will replace us incrementally in our jobs and homes.”

While news of this recent WikiLeaks disclosure is circulating on the Internet, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) is releasing the news and documents to the nation today via national press release.

American citizens are encouraged to take appropriate steps to organize in defense of the nation, and prepare to politically challenge and defeat those pursuing this unlawful, unconstitutional, and nation-destroying agenda.

William Gheen is releasing a more detailed article today titled “WikiLeaks Releases Secret Files: North American Integration” which will be distributed nationally along with this press release.

So many trashing Perry like this is a sign that this forum isn’t to be taken seriously.

Basically, for many on here, it’s Palin or nobody. Anyone else isn’t a goddess so, forget them.

Amnesty for illegals and making the fed larger are not issues you consider RINO esque?

How about no fault divorce or abortion?

What are you talking about?

His love of amnesty for illegals is exactly what makes Rick Perry a RINO. On that we can agree — amnesty and larger govt. are about as RINO as you can get. Perry is both, which makes him a RINO. Perhaps you meant to disagree with one of those who have no problem supporting Perry and think that conservatives who want to support fellow conservatives are being too picky.

So take it up with them. They are the ones who believe we need to expand our choices into the realm of RINO. You’ll get none of that from me. The only good RINO is an out of office and permanently retired RINO.

Dwight D Eisenhower born 1890 in Denison, TX, Lyndon B Johnson born 1908 in Stonewall, TX weren't Presidents?

I'm neither a Birther, nor a ROTer (Republic of Texas). I'm just pointing out that if someone thinks that having President born in Texas will put an end to Birtherism, well lets see:

Birthers and ROTers are both paranoid conspiracyists.
Birthers and ROTers are both convinced that they hold arcane knowledge that unmasks the vast conspiracy.
Birthers and ROTers are both indifferent to the fact that men have previously been elected to the Presidency/Vice-Presidency, despite the fact that they were in Birther/ROTer World, not qualified.
Birthers and ROTers are both driven to find self worth in drawing others into their delusions.

I don't see much difference. Oh sure, Birther leaders like Truther Phil Berg would find fewer Freepers and more DUmmies among their followers when they went after "President" Perry, but to think that things like fact, and reason, will end Birtherism, is to fundamentally misunderstand it.
