Sovereignty: The "Arab Spring" is supposed to be about the liberation of the Middle East from the despotisms of the past. Funny that Arab protesters' latest target is the one and only stable democracy in the region: Israel.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak may be history after mass demonstrations led to an end to his rule and an uncertain future for the land of the Pharaohs, a nation that in the not-too-distant past warred with Israel and allied itself with the Soviet Union.
Moammar Gadhafi may not be in as comfortable a position in Libya as he was once. And the living symbol of jihad, Osama bin Laden, may no longer be living.
But in spite of what many in Western governments and media hail as steps toward liberty and Westernization, and away from Islamist hatred for the free world, for too many Arabs the ultimate message seems to be the same as it ever was: Death to Israel.
Speaking to Muslim worshipers in Gaza City on Sunday as they commemorated Nakba — translated as "the day of the catastrophe," or when Israel was established in 1948 — Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh exhorted his listeners to pray for an end to Israel.
"Palestinians mark the Nakba with great hope of bringing to an end the Zionist project in Palestine," Haniyeh told the crowds as he promised that Hamas would never recognize Israel's right to exist.
And could it be a coincidence that Arab demonstrators flooded to numerous points on Israel's borders — next to Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and the West Bank, also in commemoration of Nakba?

The Dems no doubt dismiss this possibility. After all how many times has Israel been invaded in recorded history . . . other than the successful attacks in Biblical times, several in the Roman era, in the middle ages, and the multiple invasions since 1948, but other than that it almost never happens. Why worry?

Obama adviser (and wife of Cass Sunstein) is looking for a reason to invade Israel. She calls it a “Mammoth protection force” but she isn’t planning on protecting Israel. Instead she wants to protect the palestinians from “Israeli genocide”.

If something doesn’t happen in,with or to Israel in say ... the next year or so, I’ll conclude the entire planet is a stage and we idealists are being seriously played.
If I were a Palastinean terrorist or Syrian, Iranian, or Egyptian, this is when I would attack.
They have a supporter in the White House and the last time Israel made a half hearted push against Hezbollah in Lebanon, they did not fare too well.
The only thing which might be keeping them from doing so is that if it looks like they would succeed in wiping Israel out, they would get nuked. No fair person could blame Israel for doing so either.
I’m with you but I think your timeline is a bit short - but if it isn’t all the better to get on with it then. I feel that it is all going to promulgate in the aftermath of the 2012 election. Hussein will be re-elected. That will be the milestone that sets it all into vivid play - which will still take a years to play out.
This is where I think the significance of OBL plays in. Nothing will happen before the next election. I think it entirely plausible that OBL was traded for Isreal after a victory in the 2012 election.

They don't have the military means to do so. They would be slaughtered in the field.
Instead we'll see a serious uptick in terrorism and rockets from the north and south. Their intent is to bleed Israel until such time as they can obtain nukes.
Its not the 70s anymore. Egypt alone has a very effective and well trained modern military. As recent as 2009 we gave them some $2 billion in military aide. Not to mention training with them for the past 30 years.
My colleague is Jewish and maintains that the Israelis should buy Madagascar or some such place and take holy sights and soil with them. He fears it is just a matter of time that the US leftists (mostly self loathing Jews) will give the Iranians enough modern technology to wipe Israel off the map. They have been betrayed by their own.
It is his position that God would want his people to survive and thrive rather than be killed because of some attachment to rocks, dirt, and buildings.
I respect his opinion but do not venture my opinion. I would eliminate the enemy. All of them. And then go back to enjoying my day. But hey, maybe it's just me.
