Obama: Graduates said 'Yes we can'
Published: May 16, 2011 at 2:14 PM
MEMPHIS, May 16 (UPI) -- Commencement at Booker T. Washington High School in Memphis was a celebration and a chance to prove the naysayers wrong, President Obama said Monday.
"Every commencement is a day of celebration. But this one is especially hopeful," Obama told the graduating class during its graduation exercise. "That's because some people say that schools like BTW just aren't supposed to succeed in America. You'll hear them say, 'The streets are too rough in those neighborhoods.' Or 'The schools are too broken.' Or 'Those kids can't learn.'"
Booker T. Washington High School won the Race to the Top commencement competition. Since 2007, the graduation rate at Booker T. Washington High School has risen from 55 percent to 81 percent.
"We are here today because every single one of you stood up and said, 'Yes we can.' Yes we can learn. Yes we can succeed," Obama said, also recognizing the school's administration and teachers, and the students' parents in pushing the teens to succeed. "You decided that you weren't going to be defined by where you came from, but by where you want to go -- by what you want to achieve, by the dreams you hope to fulfill."
That is ok you are a product of public education so your not qualified.
Does he even realize the people he pi$$e$ on when he says stuff like that???
Wouldn't it be funny is some wise-a$$ geek from a HS computer class hacked into the teleprompter and got Hussein to cluck like a chicken or something stupid like that.
Hopefully, Obummer will spend a lot of time campaigning in Tennessee...
...and Idaho, South Carolina, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah.
When reality sets in to these graduates, “Yes we can” will become a joke commonly thrown around at drinking parties thrown by those who last year and the year before were like chanting “Yes we can” and are now working at McDonalds or not at all..... =.=
Classic Obama straw man rhetoric. In fact, nobody says any such thing but pretending that "some people" (hint - those rich racist Republicans) do gives our brave President the opportunity to boldly refute them.
Oh yeah. I'm sure "Yes we can" would play really well in Pulaski...
>but no there are no jobs unless you what to work at MC Donald’s.

CUSTOMER: “Can you make my fries extra crispy?”
BOOKER T WASHINGTON GRAD: “YES...WE CAN!!”
Did the teaching improve or did the standards go down.
That is my question.
Its a Charter School. You know, the kind Obie doesn’t want kids in DC to have access to...
go to detroit or chicago... ask them if they can read
you’d get a different answer
...wonder if he had Air Force One drop just a few miles south and do a flood-zone flyover as long as he was in the ‘hood. Yeah, right.
Considering the absolute ignorance of grammar, punctuation, and spelling displayed in your post, can you request the mods nuke it, so that its utter unintended irony can't be used against FR?

That’s pretty hard for me to understand.
1. His kids go to a charter school-—an expensive one.
2. It worked when it was used. Kids got a decent education.
3, DC school system sucks-—big time.
4. Almost every kid that got those vouchers were black.
Why screw up something that works? Something that blacks actually got a benefit from and was good for everyone.
My guess is the DC Teachers Union saw it as a danger to their jobs, and went to Obama to withdraw it.
