LOL! I've heard this before, but it's still funny.
“Chosen” does not mean “favored” or “better” or anything other than “chosen”
A child is chosen to be “it” in tag. Being chosen to be “it” is not fun or better is “it”?
I was always taught that G-d looked around the world for the least of the peoples of the world -— the people who were nothing special — not tall and fierce like Vikings or Nairobi tribesmen, not anything -— and “chose” this completely insignificant people to give evidence of His greatness.
“I agree with P. J. O’Rourke. He wonders why if God favors
them so much he drug them all over the Middle East for 40
years, them put them in the only place with no oil.”
(1) Oil is easy money and therefor actually a curse that fosters corruption and stiffles growth and innovation. Look at the entire Arab world for examples.
(2) “Chosen” doesn’t necessarily mean “favored.” It means chosen. For what? Some thoughts include to deliver God’s word, to bring Christ to the world, to be a test for all peoples, and other tasks. Getting chosen can be good, but it can also be tough. For example, the draft was how America “chose” men to serve in Vietnam.
(3) Even if chosen meant favored, more is often expected of a favored child than one permitted to slouch through life.
