Radioactive substance detected in green tea leaves in Ibaraki towns
MITO -- Higher levels of radioactive cesium than the national provisional limit were detected in green tea leaves harvested in Daigo and Sakai in northern Ibaraki Prefecture, the prefectural government announced May 16.
The government said radioactive cesium of 894 becquerels per kilogram was detected in green tea leaves picked May 15 in Sakai and that of 570 becquerels per kilogram in Daigo in green tea leaves picked May 14, compared with the official interim limit of 500 becquerels per kilogram.
The prefectural government ordered the two towns May 16 to halt shipments of green tea leaves.
Meanwhile, radioactive cesium of 3 becquerels was detected in the hot extracts of green tea in Sakai and 30 becquerels in Daigo against the provisional limit of 200 becquerels for drinking water under the Food Sanitation Law.

So? In 1900 people in the US were running their drinking water through radium because they thought it made them healthier.
“So? In 1900 people in the US were running their drinking water through radium because they thought it made them healthier.”
THAT had to leave a mark! I remember a prof in college saying that in the 50’s workers in a US watch manufacturing plant tipped the point of their radium dial paint brushes, used to manually paint the little dots onto the dial to mark the hours on the watch face, by touching the brush to their lips. They stopped when it became evident that the outbreak of mouth cancer was related to it.
It’s crushing to read that they discovered this AFTER the harvest. After the leaves were picked/handled etc. What level of contamination did those who brought in the harvest experience? How many workers have been working that field in the past two months?

I’m so shocked by this coverup it’s hard to put it in words.
The information you provided could have been scheduled not to come out for another month. Hope it is not true, but I don’t have much confidence. I fear so much damning information on the disaster are still withheld. In the mean time, people get poisoned slowly.
