SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- The California Assembly approved a bill Monday to prohibit openly carrying unloaded handguns in public after a debate that pitted gun rights proponents against chiefs of police.

The bill, AB144, would make it a misdemeanor to carry an exposed and unloaded gun in a public place, street or vehicle except in some unincorporated areas. It was approved 45-29 largely along party lines and moves to the Senate.

That’s ok.

I prefer my guns loaded anyway.

Police don't believe in 2nd amendment rights for anyone except police.

So, now it’s illegal to conceal carry (w/o permit)[State], and open carry [loaded], and open carry [unloaded]... sounds to me like that’s all the options for bearing arms.
Time to charge the city, and the police who enforce it, with Conspiracy Against Rights [ http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/718/usc_sec_18_00000241——000-.html ] and Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law [ http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/718/usc_sec_18_00000242——000-.html ].

Indeed, this hot on the heels of those BAD 4th Amendment cases (Indiana Supreme Court and US Supreme Court) recently.

So no more open carry. Unless you have a ccw, it looks like the only way to carry a handgun is unloaded and locked in a case. What bastards.

It’s called cornering the market on defense. They want you dependant on the govt for everything and they want you defenseless to resist their taking over of everything else.

Dictators and their Gestapo prefer unarmed, defenseless peasants as targets.

I think that is dependent on where one lives. We are in a rural area outside of Carson City, NV. Our sheriff encourages concealed carry permits. He has said more than once that he wishes everyone carried. The majority of our deputies feel the same. :)

Hubby and I are just waiting for our CCW paperwork to be processed. There is a 120-day window from the time paperwork is turned in until they have to have it back to you. Our county is really good about a quick turn around but they said the Feds take every last day they are allowed.

No surprise, they hate guns here with a passion. The dimwits in San Fran even tried to totally ban handguns (got something like 80% of the popular vote) with a proposition that passed but was shot down as unconstitutional (state preemption, not 2nd).

Our only hope is the nut case Brown who does happen to be slightly to the right of Meg Whitman on this issue so there is some hope (however slight) that he might veto this bill. I’m not holding my breath and I doubt that the federal courts will get involved because you can still (theoretically in the populated counties and somewhat easily in the rural counties) get a ccw. Sucks but I see most of the population going along with this, at least until the next riot, but by then it will be too late.

you have to wonder about the goof balls that thought it was a good idea to walk around with empty pistols on their belt when they should have realized full well the even goofier balls in sacramento would react in such a way. Hopefully brown will veto although I wouldn't bet on it. He was openly against the ammo bills recently passed by the gun nazies in ca.

The California Open Carry groups wanted this confrontation and they got it, only with really bad results.

In-Your-face rarely works for conservatives, and this is a great example.

We must will this case in the courts, not in the street of the Left Coast. Those are lost to us.
