But wouldn't liberals and Democrats still find a racially-based way to attack Cain? They certainly found a way to attack Clarence Thomas, the black, conservative Supreme Court justice.

The economy did not take a downturn from 2003-2006, it was in fact quite robust in every state--except Mass. and Louisiana. Lousiana experienced hurricane Katrina; Mass. had not excuse.
Romney significantly raised taxes in Mass. Yea, he called them "fee increases", but if you're a small business it doesn't matter if you call it a fee or a tax, it still means you are paying more to the government.
The fact that Romney left office with only a 30% approval rating should tell you something. Even in Democratic Mass. this is extremely low for a Republican.
Unafraid, unapologetic, unwavering.

If that is your one issue, you will be lonely come election day.
There is increasing awareness that years of one-sided trade agreements are a significant factor in our economic problems, unemployment and the ever increasing cost of government welfare and programs that support lower income Americans. Involvement in an organization (the SPP) dedicated to the integration of the US, Canada and Mexico might not be reassuring to many voters.
More needs to be known about all the current candidates and eventual candidates.
Without starting a whole new discussion on trade here, I will say a couple of things: our biggest impediments to competitiveness are our own self inflicted liberal policies. Instead of slapping say a 25% tariff on imports, we would be better off to have tort reform and to roll back corporate taxes and the EPA and the EEOC and the OSHA and all of that. This could save a lot more than 25% and it would not cause a trade war and would not punish 100% of the American consumers for 10% of the workforce.
Our trade policy cannot overcome what the wage and government realities are in the rest of the world. They just cannot do it. I suspect Cain will more or less agree with this.
If you want a Perot or Trump style trade warrior, you will not like Cain.
Keep in mind folks, both Newt & Mitt are toast. The rest of the field narrows to Cain, Palin, Bachmann & possibly Trump!!! They are the only ones with backbones!!!
You don’t need to convince me. I think Cain is a fine choice, and most politicians simply are not. The current office holder is a great example. A man of no experience, and only political acumen is now in the top job. The disastrous consequences of that are quite evident.
When it comes to trade with Mexico and China and other cheap labor nations, the number one reason jobs were moved to those nations was cheap labor, as little as 10% and less of US pay.
And I have asked several times for those who blame unions and regulations for jobs losses why some of the lowest paying, non-union jobs in clean industries were some of the first to go to cheap labor, such as sewing plants and other labor intensive, light manufacturing.
The predictable result of more open trade between the US and nations with much lower living standards, and very cheap labor, has been a reduction of living standards for many Americans because the exported and outsourced jobs are not being replaced with equal or better jobs as promised for the past twenty or thirty years. - And that is what’s been happening for several decades and we are now seeing the cumulative effects.
Cain’s prescriptions will only bring some improvements at the margins. The biggest problem is incredibly cheap labor ($12 - $20 per month in Bangladesh), not the litany of blame aimed at unions and the government some are more comfortable with.
Trump just rescinded his venture for president. I sure don’t want a Mitt Romney, or a Rick Santorin. I like Cain over Daniels and Pawlenty. I don’t think Palin or Bachman will run.
Of course I would vote for Chris Christie in a NY minute. Cain And Christie...what a great combination. We need a leader w/ oomph! These two guys have it.
The left are simply Marxists at heart.
In the ideology of the Marxist, anything that advances Marxism/communism is a moral good, and anything that thwarts it is a moral evil.
This is the conclusion of the “means/ends test”.
The question is always asked, “Do the ends justify _these_ means?”
And the Marxist gets around anyone ever answering “no” by defining the “ends” as perfection.
