Hmm, found this on wikipedia. Now, I realize that wikiedia is not always the most accurate source for information. But, it’s there.....
“Disney was an ardent socialist and a supporter of Eugene Debs”
Eugene Victor Debs (November 5, 1855 October 20, 1926) was an American union leader, one of the founding members of the International Labor Union and the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), and several times the candidate of the Socialist Party of America for President of the United States.[2] Through his presidential candidacies, as well as his work with labor movements, Debs eventually became one of the best-known socialists living in the United States.
I don't have a link but I think this is pure crap. It goes against everything I've ever heard about Walt Disney, and I grew up in southern california.
I’ve read two books about Disney (one by Michael Barrier and one by Neal Gabler), and I certainly don’t purport to be an expert on Disney, his ardent socialism isn’t broached or explored in either bio.
Indeed, both books depict him as fairly conservative and particularly anti-communist.
Now, I know a socialist can be anti-communist (suggesting that it goes too far, for example), but if Mr Disney was an ardent socialist, I would think it would be more prominent in both (or at least either) of these books.
Perhaps a young Walt Disney was a fan of Debs, but I don’t think the mature Disney was particularly leftist or even liberal.
The Wikipedia entry sounds dubious to me.
