I’m guessing you’ve heard Donna Summer’s disco remake of “MacArthur Park”? She released it in the late 70’s. I found it to be considerably better than the original.

Actually, I didn't hear the original for several years after it first came out, and was under the (mistaken) impression that a jazz instrumental effort by Maynard Ferguson was the original. Without the over-the-top vocals, it's quite a decent song.
