They should have just shut up about the whole op for at least several days in order to allow the intelligence agencies time to exploit any leads found in the compound.
And then, like they agreed with Gates, they should have released no operational details on the mission.

Add to that his stating they would release photos then taking it back. There wouldn’t have been as much uproar had he never said they would release photos.

Exactly. Frankly, when I first heard the news that night, I ASSUMED that Bin Laden had been killed at least a week earlier.
