Does the Huck Stop Here? (Huckabee adviser Ed Rollins says he will pass running)
WSJ ^ | Friday May 13, 2011

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee looks like he’ll give the 2012 White House campaign a pass, says Mr. Huckabee’s top political operative.

Mr. Huckabee has told followers to tune in to his Saturday evening show on Fox News for what he calls a major announcement. But Ed Rollins, who directed his 2008 campaign and has been organizing his 2012 campaign-in-waiting, said he has not been consulted.

“I’ve heard nothing, which indicates to me he’s not running,” Mr. Rollins said in an interview.

If Mr. Huckabee formally says he’s a no-go, his absence will reshape the still-chaotic campaign for the Republican nomination. He leads or is near the top of virtually every poll of Republican primary voters, and would have been the presumptive front runner in the first-in-the-nation caucus state of Iowa, which he won in 2008. Without him, a large Evangelical contingent – plus voters drawn to his easy-going personality – will be up for grabs in the Hawkeye State and beyond.

As recently as a week ago, Mr. Rollins said, he had been meeting with Mr. Huckabee intensively to go over his chances. A month ago, he said, the former governor was “fully engaged.” Two weeks ago, “he started backing off, but he still wanted to go through

Well, no news here for FREEPERs. I recall 2-3 weeks ago hearing that Huck had released his SC staff to work for other campaigns. The article is right that Huck not running is going to change the dynamics of the race. If Palin runs, this helps her in Iowa. But I also think that it helps Cain who has made a name for himself as of late.

Here's another theory..

Huck has always polled well..finishing in the top 2-3 just about every time..and he's got a huge base in the evangelicals. So why should he run NOW? Give up his cushy life..high paying gig.. Instead..say he's not running...not forming an exploratory comittee..and sit back and see what happens. If nobody else catches fire in the next 6 months or so..then he can get back into it..it's easy to drum up "spontaneous" support these days..

Let us see if he does not issue a statement to the effect, that Obama will be unbeatable and that there is no way he could raise a billion dollars to stay in the race so why bother!

Maybe he is taking advice from some on The View.

But Ed Rollins, who directed his 2008 campaign and has been organizing his 2012 campaign-in-waiting, said he has not been consulted.

Huckabee picked this guy to direct his 2008 campaign? No wonder he didn't fare so well. Rollins is one of those old-time Republican strategists who knows how to turn win-win situations into lose-lose in short order. He also specializes in snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Picking this guy shows Huckabee suffers from a serious lack of judgement.

Rollins is also one of those guys that ABCCBSNBCCNN go to when they want someone to bash Republicans or Republican positions. He is always willing to oblige. Good riddance to both of these losers.

The "Big Money" GOP movers and shakers in Arkansas, Tennessee and Florida have already promised Palin their backing. Hickaboo knows better than to waste his time and money, as Sarah will sew it up virtually as soon as she announces.

Told you so... you heard it here first.
