The Obama administration's National Labor Relations Board filed a complaint last month against Boeing to block production of the company's 787 Dreamliner at a new assembly plant in South Carolinaa "right to-work" state with a law against compulsory union membership. If the NLRB has its way, Dreamliner assembly will return to Washington, a union-shop state, along with more than 1,000 jobs.
The NLRB's action, which Boeing will challenge at a hearing next month, is a big deal. It's the first time a federal agency has intervened to tell an American company where it can and cannot operate a plant within the U.S. It lays the foundation of a regulatory wall with one express purpose: to prevent the direct competition of right-to-work states with union-shop states. Why, as South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley recently asked on these pages, should Washington have any more right to these jobs than South Carolina?
A recent New York Times editorial justified the NLRB decision by arguing that unions are suffering from "the flight of companies to 'Right-to-Work' states where workers cannot be required to join a union." That's for sure, and quite an admission. We've been observing that migration pattern for years, but liberals have denied it's actually happeninguntil now.
Every year we rank the states on their economic competitiveness in a report called "Rich States, Poor States" for the American Legislative Exchange Council. This ranking uses 15 fiscal, tax and regulatory variables to determine which states have policies that are most conducive to prosperity. Two of these 15 policies have consistently stood out as the most important in predicting where jobs will be created and incomes will rise. First, states with no income tax generally outperform high income tax states. Second, states that have right-to-work laws grow faster than states with forced unionism.

Senate Republicans are raising a stink. And they're moving to do something about it.
The odds of the bill actually passing the Senate, of course, virtually nil.
But I wonder why the Republican House doesn't employ the hammer that it has -- the responsibility for originating all spending bills.
Isn't it time for the Labor Committee of the House to submit a 2012 budget bill for the Labor Department that shows ZERO on the NLRB line?
The same tactic is certainly indicated for the EPA.
If the departments and agencies want their funding restored, they'd best sit down with the responsible committees in the House...and negotiate for it.
They should impeach him just to piss him off. Even if he survives it, it will put a nice blot on him in the history books.
It's really a matter of effective political war.
Democrats are accusing Republicans of stealing our medicare to pay for tax cuts on the rich. Republicans should accuse Obama personally of suing employers for creating jobs in America. Republicans don't have a clue how to fight, Democrats are experts at it.
” Republicans should accuse Obama personally of suing employers for creating jobs in America. Republicans don’t have a clue how to fight, Democrats are experts at it. “
The Republicans are acting like they want to loose....like McCain in 08. Deja Vu all over again.
They have tried but no one hears them over Obama the new war hero garbage,
Enough people know and know the pubs are trying. Now if they could only get a good OUTSIDER tea party candidate to challenge Obama.
That's just me, though.
I have never watched AI or any of those stupid shows. I did watch a few Dancing with the Starts when Bristol Palin was on it. I think people that are into AI are bizarre.
I want a bumper sticker! "Obama administration sues Boeing for having the audacity to create jobs in America."
I see your point, but wouldn't that last part give Dems a opening to raise taxes on international corporations, and probably raise support for the NLRB?
If the NLRB would can sue Boeing for "retaliation" if they move to S Car., why couldn't they sue Boeing for "retaliation" if they moved overseas?
” “Obama administration sues Boeing for having the audacity to create jobs in America.”
Where are the Republicans in the House & Senate????
I know....gone to graveyards, everyone.
You know what Boing ought to do is say “You know what BO we will move all of our plants to China and you can stick it where the sun don’t shine”
Ford’s most productive plant is in Brazil, where they were allowed to use advanced robotic assemblers. Wanna bet they don’t build any new plants in the US?
The risk: Boeing moves all its work to Canada or China. NLRB can’t do anything if even more jobs go overseas.
In case you missed this.
God bless Charleston South Carolina.
I was born there. I now live in Washington state.
This place sucks, it’s turning into kalifonia.
Screw this. I am moving to Alaska.
Therein is the problem. It's not that we can't win this fight...it's there aren't any willing to fight it. I am just weary of the political make us feel good talk. Other than Trump and Palin none are taking the democrates to the mat when they all should be a united force to contend with. Instead it's about who's going to run or not and carefully planning how to protect their truf. If they'd just speak up they'd be pleasantly surprise the support they would have. But no...that takes courage and sacrifice and far too few have that.
Not so fast. I give (been giving) Palin credit for going after Obama on important issues like AZ immigration and WI unions.
But Trump is a crackpot liberal con-man. He is talking stupid stuff targeting uninformed idiots. I just assume Obama win again than Trump's nonsense be believed. Liberal Trump is NOT targeting Democrats.
The Republicans are carefully studying this issue and making sure they take the right position and say the right things. Keep in mind that when you’re a Republican and you say the wrong thing, the liberal media will repeat that statement endlessly and you’ll never get away from it. Of course, when a Democrat says the wrong thing, the media buries that regrettable statement and we never hear it again.
There are a number of key battleground states in the 2012 election that have some union companies, such as Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. We don’t want to make statements that cost us votes among union members (some of them do vote for Pubs) and their non-union friends at those companies. Republicans have to be very careful what they say about union issues and generally it’s best to not say more than necessary on any issue. Boeing is very likely to win this case in court, based on what I’ve read, so there’s no need to get too excited about it yet. DeMint and Gov. Haley can talk about it because the pro-Boeing position is obviously very popular in South Carolina, so let them do the talking for now.
Trumps not going to run...we know that...but I am for anyone who takes a stand against this administration...even if they appear as a dingbat...many politicians speak just as crazy and He certainly isn’t as bad as Barry’s flat out lies and knocking our country 24/7.
Trumps got many problems but primarily his temperment could not stand long against those with the facts, which he surely will face if he does run. However I don’t underestimate the general public...they like a good fight and if Trump keeps on doing so he’ll have his followers...regardless where he stands on the issues. Just as with those who voted for Barry could have cared less about issues.
Our problem is there are still too many people uninformed...and I’m not sure they even care if they are.
