Sears may leave Chicago
www.chicago-ppl.com/sears-hq-may-leave-illinois.html
We did in 2007. No regrets at all.
Got a feeling this is more bark than bite
Too little too late. Sears is toast.
Hope not, I get a lot of contract work from them :(
however, it’s been drying up a bit as of late.
Atlanta would love take them! Sears, come on down!
The real story here is not that Sears is leaving, but why on Earth anyone is staying?
After IL legislature hiked taxes up the wazoo. Have to make sure all thoze lazy, unproductive government workers can get over-sized salaries and pensions.
No, I hope not that they’re toast. Sears in Cali has accounts with our firm and I personally helped acquire those accounts. Plus...some of the Sears guys are conservatives, and hate Obama.
I’ll bet the folks at Boeing who a couple of years ago chose to go to that socialist shittehole and passed on Dallas wishes they could undo that decision. Be interesting to know the whole story on that move....you can bet there was some big under the table bucks involved.
NOTE to SEARS EXECS: Get in touch with Governor Scott in Florida we would love to have you here...and there are wonderful tax incentives!
Wisconsin is open for business, and the gasoline needed for moving wouldn’t be all that bad.
zztop
Same here, the only thing about Chicago that I really miss is the pizza, the good burgers and greasy fries from Bob-os in Shiller Park, and Portillos
Not to interrupt a good Illinois-bashing (I live so so I’m entitled) - but facts have a bearing on this discussion.
Corporate tax rate in Illinois after all the jacking-up = 5%.
After incentives, losses, loopholes, etc. only about 1/3 of corporations actually pay these taxes.
And they have to weigh the benefits of being in Chicago vs. the costs, including corporate taxes. Some comparisons:
Iowa: 7.92%
Minnesota: 7.05%
Wisconsin: 6.5%
Missouri: 6%
Kentucky: 5.8%
Indiana: 3.4%
Of the adjacent states, only one has a lower corporate tax rate.
And bear in mind that Sub-S corporations pass thru their tax liability to the shareholders.
O, I’ll laugh my arse silly if that happens...hopefully they’ll go to a nice, REPUBLICAN VOTING state.
Starve the beasts, folks.
Ever hear of Vernon, California?
Who’s John Galt?
Indiana is the closest out of state location to the present Sears Headquarters............... I’m sure Gary-Hammond-East Chicago-Dyer-South Bend-Mishawaka-Goshen would welcome Sears with open arms, free land, and a 50 year tax abatement ~ and to boot, an already established commuter rail hook up to facilitate employee ease of transfer to a new location ~ http://www.nictd.com/systemmap.html
Will the Unions and DUmmies protest and use thugish behavior to try to force Sears to stay?
