The 5 billion dollars this tax increase would generate would cover the deficit generated by this out of control government in one morning.
They are talking about 21 billion OVER 10 YEARS, or only 2.1 billion per year, in tax CREDITS. So even if the credits are dollar for dollar and eliminating the 2.1 billion in tax credits generates 2.1 billion in new tax revenues, the increase in tax revenues would only be for the first year or so as the oil companies would shift make the appropriate adjustments to reduce the tax burden.
And the 2.1 billion does amount to less than one day's worth of the deficit spending by congress.
