SWAT team fired 71 shots in raid

The Pima County Regional SWAT team fired 71 shots in seven seconds at a Tucson man they say pointed a gun at officers serving a search warrant at his home. Jose Guerena, 26, a former Marine who served in Iraq twice, was holding an AR-15 rifle when he was killed, but he never fired a shot, the Sheriff's Department said Monday after initially saying he had fired on officers during last week's raid.

This is, of course, assuming that this guy is a bad guy, not a good guy.

What if your assumption that this guy is a bad guy, not a good guy is wrong?

Is the SWAT team going to un-shoot him?

Well, no, that's where you're wrong. He did deserve to be burst upon. The fact that he was shot was his choosing. This is, of course, assuming that this guy is a bad guy, not a good guy.

Really? I used to live in this country called America where the citizens were innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

As for him not getting medical care, it’s standard proceedure that the site must be cleared out and declared safe before paramedics are allowed inside

Is that a law or a union rule? What is the procedure for declaring a site safe? Safe for whom? Obviously, not the victim.

" . . . about how I perform my military duties,"

I'm reading these posts sequentially so I'm assuming others will respond to this outrageously stupid comment.

Just what type of military duties do you perform in your assignment?

It's an industry. No way is the government going to dismantle a prohibition that employs thousands in law enforcement and incarceration.

Jail is a HUGE industry. A thousand man jail can generate $300 million per year.

Any FR citizens out there please listen. If your county is trying to build a 1,000+ man jail in your county, don't let them do it. Within 10 years, most of your 25 yr old young men will be in that jail, with Uncle Steve as a Union Corrections Officer.

This is what happened in Hamilton, Ohio. Wonderful, Mayberry sort of place that transformed after the Sherrifs got their jobs at the jail.

If this guy was innocent, I'll be the first one to say bring the cops up on charges. The first one.

Notice the past participle. "If this guy WAS innocent." That's right, Sugarpants, because he's DEAD now and we really don't need your stinking affirmation.

Terrifying and most of it is due to the war on drugs.

Really, the Patriot Act has made this madness legal. It's time to roll back the old, misnamed Patriot Act because there's really nothing patriotic about abusing constitiutional rights.

Hell, the airline passengers are the ones catching the terrorist on the plane, not the cops not the TSA not the FBI. Heroic citizens like it should be.

It is a sad trend here on FR to equate cops and military

Who sadly equates cops to military? I don't think I have ever read a post that states that.

What I do see is a general FR backlash against militarized, unionized police forces who have been caught multiple times acting with more excess in the USA than military personnel can legally employ overseas.

I’ll bet the SEAL’s who took down bin Laden didn’t fire 71 shots. But they are professionals.

I’m in the Army as well. They allow us to serve our country in a number of ways. Especially when you’re a commissioned Officer.

There is no evidence that the Marine had committed any crime. There is no evidence that he was a Bad Guy.

“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
is God in his holy dwelling. “ (Psalm 68:5)

May the widow and her children turn to God during their time of grief and afterward.

Anyone have any estimates about what a home 1. audio and
2. video recording system would cost? And 3, what an
offsite backup would cost too. Having a record would end
(one hopes) disputes about police self identification etc.

I’d agree the Patriot Act should be gone but its only part. The WOD has allowed police depts to generate massive budgets and get all kinds of shiny new toys.

Of course Homeland Security is part of it as well. What a misnomer.

“Who sadly equates cops to military? I don’t think I have ever read a post that states that.”

If you read up thread you’ll see a poster who was supporting the cops actions in this case equating law enforcement to military. He commented that the ROE for law enforcement needed to be more relaxed than the military’s in Iraq among other things. From the posts it was obvious he was equating them.

You can get those home video security systems for about $400, but it depends on how many cameras you want. They come with a DVR or DVR software which stores the video/audio. The offsite backup will cost about $30 a month but you could find it cheaper. Check local laws before recording audio outside your home as it may be illegal.

Wow, did not know that about CAIR. Yep, I agree, many mods there are ridiculous. From my memory, they have driven away many resourceful board members of the years.

Yep, I agree, many mods there are ridiculous...

Of couple of them wear badges when they aren't trolling their own forum. It's a pretty tight "good ol' boys" club. The Avila's themselves are good folks, they've just let "t3h stoopid" run a little rampant amongst their staff.

This is why I really lost all respect for 99% of cops. Read the whole story, truly disgusting.

Law enforcement in this country has become nothing more than organized crime and taxpayer financed street gangs.
