In my experience, I cannot recall ever seeing in the US a muslim male getting a secondary look/pat-down, you know, the guy dressed in classic garb, headdress. Nor can I recall a burka-wearing female getting a double look, either. And I've been watching.
I have seen in the US many wheelchair bound 80-ish white old ladies getting the probe, as well as infants and toddlers. Like someone observed, we are looking for weapons, not terrorists.
In middle-east countries I see third-country nationals (pakis, indians, thai, etc) getting the double-deep search, but never see western travelers nor muslims getting a look-over.
Heck, there are quite a few middle-east countries where you pay an “expediter” at the hotel and he walks you through the airport, past “security” and to your gate. . .never once getting a look by any “security.”
So, we have a situation where, since 9-11, I have been vigilant and watching security at the airport and I see no muslims getting a look (domestic or abroad), and I see how silly “security” is and how easy it would be to “get around” security at airports where jihad is a goal and way of life/death.
My observations are based on the my experience as a 150K + a year frequent international flyer.
