San Francisco no longer will report to immigration authorities juveniles suspected of being in the United States illegally when they are arrested on a felony charge if they can show they have family ties to the Bay Area, are enrolled in school and are not repeat offenders, Mayor Ed Lee said Tuesday.
The edict creates a middle ground between the hard-line position of Lee's predecessor, Gavin Newsom, who directed city law enforcement officers to report all arrested juveniles to federal authorities for possible deportation, and the Board of Supervisors, which backed a more liberal policy.
Supervisors passed a law in 2009 intended to prevent the city from automatically cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement unless the juvenile had been convicted of a felony - not just arrested. Newsom vetoed the law and the board overrode the veto, but he refused to enforce it.
"I've had to take care in balancing the issue of public safety and also due process," Lee said.
He said his policy, revealed during his "question time" before the Board of Supervisors, reflects the spirit and values of San Francisco's 22-year-old city sanctuary policy, which aims to create a safe refuge for immigrants, whether documented or not.

Love the logic arrested for a felony,have a family,enrolled in school, just like that they become fine upstanding citizens. Last time they had illegals posing as teens and they we're in their 20's. The illegals get a safe refuge for their crimes and the general public is put at risk. I cannot follow their logic on this of how it makes everything all well and better ?

The self-centered council of SF obviously doesn’t give a rat’s ass about the concerns of the United States.
Last time SF did this the city shielded illegal juveniles who committed felonies from possible deportation, only one city flew juvenile drug dealers back to their homeland rather than turning them over to Federal authorities. And, most despicable, only one city enabled a convicted gang member (member the country’s most violent gang, M-13) to remain in this country illegally and commit a road rage triple murder

As poster children for America-hating ultra-liberals, they are just being themselves... selfish, "look at me", caricatures of themselves.
Most of what they do is strictly for the purpose of drawing attention to themselves by attempting to stick a thumb in the eye of normal America. But normal America views San Fransicko as little more than an amusing freak show - - something to gawk at from a distance. As each new attempt to shock draws little more than chuckles and yawns from normal America, the children lash out with something even more outrageous than the last thing.
In the end, however, everything they do effects only San Fransicko.
And the residents there deserve exactly what they vote for. Congratulations to them.

It seems to me the strategy on this issue should be for victims of crimes by repeat IA offenders to sue the City for failing to provide protection. If the City adopted a policy of refusing to put out fires set by illegal aliens, surely those damaged would have standing to sue for negligence.
Indeed, they deserve what they vote for.

The nightmare of law abiding citizens being prevented from protecting themselves by using the laws that exist for that purpose has become a reality.
The time to take back our country is now passing the mark of no return. If not done in the near future, it won’t be done.
Too bad the TX legislative session is almost over for the next two years. The GOP super-majority really should have passed a law that would pay for transportation to San Francisco for all illegals arrested in TX. I’d be willing to chip in a few extra bucks for a Transportation Fund for Illegals.
