Here are the first three words Willard Mitt Romney needs to say in Michigan tomorrow, but never will.
“I screwed up.”
The only way for Willard to move on, get some closure, etc. on this grand fiasco of RomneyCare is to finally man up and admit that in 2006 the Democrats in Massachusetts beat him like a rented mule. Acknowledge the undisputable truth that, thanks to his raw political ambition, we have tax-paying American citizens being fined $2,000 for the crime of having no dough, to quote The Band.
Oh, and by the way, illegal aliens still get free health care. Just ask Auntie Zeituni.
Following his first three words, Willard could employ that ancient bipartisan gesture of quoting a member of the opposite party, in this case the late Sen. Lloyd Bentsen, or was it Al Smith:
“When I make a mistake, it’s a doozy.”
Throwing himself on the mercy of the court of public opinion would have so many advantages. Number one, for once Romney wouldn’t be shading the truth. Number two, his abject mea culpa would fit into a 30-second campaign spot, which none of his earlier tortured, preposterous alibis could come close to.
Number three, Americans love a confession, especially by a rich guy.
On the other hand, perhaps Romney believes he didn’t get rolled by the grinning guys standing behind him in that famous photograph in Faneuil Hall where he’s signing the legislation backed by the late Ted Kennedy and the indicted Sal DiMasi.
An alternate explanation is that when he signed RomneyCare into law, Mitt knew he was outta here, and he needed some unique cutting-edge story line for his 2008 presidential campaign.
Back then nobody quite knew just how unpalatable socialized medicine was going to be, so Mitt figured his audiences could make RomneyCare into whatever they wanted it to be -- a reasonable alternative to the crazed single-payer Democrat plans, if they were Republicans, or the start of the inevitable march to the wonders of the British National Health Service, if they were Democrats.
That seemed like a possible winning strategy in 2006. Alas for Mitt, it’s 2011.
Maybe he could claim Ted Kennedy got him drunk before he signed it. But nah, that’s even more unbelievable than his occasional contentions that RomneyCare is in fact working well.
Willard always seems to be making a big speech that he hopes will make up for all that has gone before. Remember his famous address on Mormonism in 2007? Me neither, I just remember the run-up to it, and then it was forgotten, in a matter of moments.
Whenever he gets himself in a jam, Mitt always runs back to Michigan, his real home state. That’s where he won the primary in 2008, you may recall, although it’s probably rather hazy now, kinda like the Mormonism address, or all the other ones he’s delivered as he bids fair to become the Harold Stassen of the 21st century.
Or he could pull a page out of Scott Brown’s playbook and say he got a “secret briefing” on how great RomneyCare was going to be.
One final possible applause line, from the collected works of H. Paul Rico: “What do you want, tears?”

Romney could have been leading the battle against this communist/muslim onslaught for the past 2.5 years, day in and day out; but he wasn't.
It is far, far, far too late for him to say anything now.

Face it, you can’t run for statewide office multiple times in Massachusetts and for the GOP nomination for President in the same lifetime. Just too many contradictions are inherent in that.

A few questions about this insurance plan in Mass. First does everyone have medical insurance now? Those that don’t just pay 2000 dollars a year for not having it? The belief I have is that many people decide not to have insurance because they would rather use the money to take a trip to Hawaii and if they get sick they leave it to the tax payers. With the 2000 at least those folks are not getting their yearly trip. Also why do people not want folks to have insurance???? I never could understand why supposed conservatives ever wanted folks to get free health care which they receive if they refuse to purchase insurance. It just baffles me.
No. It went up a few percentage points, but that's pretty much people who qualified for MassHealth (Medicaid) but hadn't signed up.

Who do you "believe" are these people taking annual trips to Hawaii but don't have health insurance -- drug dealers and such? AFAIK, people who make enough for leisure travel have "good jobs at good wages" that also carry good benefits, including medical insurance. The people who don't have it are those in crappy jobs that pay $18,000 or $20,000 or $25,000 and have no benefits. They make too much to qualify for MassHealth, but not enough for the $12,000 or so it would cost them for medical insurance. Mostly, the fine is waived for them, but they still lose their personal exemption on their taxes.

[2] Primary care physicians are retiring or refusing to take on new patients because the treatment standards and compensation rates now mandated by the state make primary care professionally risky and economically unprofitable. We now have a primary care physician shortage in one of the nation’s premier centers of medicine.
[3] Hospitals are continuing to lose money and are now being budgetarily squeezed as well by the commonwealth’s failure to make timely remittance of payments.
We do not need fatally flawed or Miss Congeniality candidate but a Street fighter to take on this EVIL Alinkite Puppet and his fellow America haters !
They had some lady on Hannity the other day with the title ‘Republican strategist’. She’s a Romney supporter. She spend the whole show defending Obama, lol.
