The notion that cutting off funding for an organization is some sort of ‘extra judicial punishment’ as was found with ACORN funding - is about the most disgusting development in American jurisprudence in the last hundred years - and that is really saying something.
They have no “right” to be funded by tax money such that refusal to fund is “punishment”.
I think a lot of this comes from the fact that he was an executive at Eli Lilly for years before he was a politician. He develops a strategic plan reflecting what the thinks is critical, he focuses on it and makes it happen. In his first term, he succeeded with a split legislative branch. Daniels is a marked contrast to most politicians. He won't say just anything to make whomever he is speaking to happy. If it's not on his critical list, he treats it as a distraction, much like he did the right to work legislation in the recently concluded session. It was off the table in the past session, but Daniels does support right to work and I'd be surprised if it is not on the agenda next session.

Yep. Evan Bayh implemented state worker collective bargaining by EO, Daniels erased it. Membership in the state teachers union (ISTA)dropped 70% virtually overnight; for anyone still wondering who benefits from unions.
The right to work legislation which was tabled last session was for private industry. The Chamber of Commerce lobbied for it because of the high number of business opportunities the state has missed out on because businesses are choosing not to do business in states where unionism is forced. (Witness recent Boeing kerfuffle with the NLRB.)
I'd surprised if it doesn't surface next session.
I like him as a governor. He’s been good for the state and believe me, he’s caught a lot of crap for things he’s done. The I-69 road project caused a real bruhaha in the north east part of the state, but he got it done. Now the southern I-69 section is getting done. Yeah, he sold it to an outsider, so what. They charge a toll, so what. If you use it you should be willing to pay for it. I personally won’t use it often, maybe once in a while if I go to Indy, but I’d be willing to pay a toll if I used it. He’s balanced our budget and got us fiscally sound. Can’t say that for other states. He doesn’t care what the naysayers crab about, he just does the job that needs to be done.
Mitch Daniels is much more apt to get my vote with this signature.
Of course, Barry has been very “exciting” and look how badly we are doing! People have to drop the hunt for somebody who is charismatic (which Barry is not, by the way) and find somebody with sense!

Excellent. This is a good start. Now we need 49 other states and the feds to get on board for this too (unfortunately this is unlikely any time soon — I hope I am wrong on this).
Bush’s problem in part, was his not fighting back and he can thank Karl Rove for that brilliant advice. That is why I do not take Rove very seriously.
Praise the Lord. I guess I will have to rethink about Mitch Daniels running for the GOP nomination.

A low-key guy like Daniels who can calmly but effectively make the case for conservative policies is exactly what we need.
What makes you think Daniels can't do that? Have you actually heard him speak on substantive policy issues? I've emailed links of his talks to middle-of-the road friends I have, and they all find him very convincing.
His speach at CPAC is exactly the kind of thing we need to convince people in the middle to support conservative ideas.
Don't confuse rhetorical bomb-throwing with effective communication.
Exactly, and I can't for the life of me understand why. Bomb throwers, while they may be fun to listen to, seldom win elections.
Furthermore, even when rhetorical bomb-throwers do get elected, they very seldom get anything done.
We don't need a bomb thrower. We need someone who can clamly, politely, and intelligently make a persuasive case for conservative policy solutions to the mushy middle. Daniels fits that bill better than any other candidate.

When it comes to oratory, simple articulation of support from the Governor would be nice as the legislators and the people of Indiana fight for legislation.
