UPDATE: Obama Campaign Denies Purchase of GutsyCall.com
Email Guy Benson | All Posts By Blogger
The Huffington Post gets to the bottom of the GutsyCall.com kerfuffle, which we discussed yesterday:
The Democratic National Committee insists the website wasnt created by its team, or the Obama campaign apparatus. A DNC official told The Huffington Post that neither entity bought the URL in question, nor do they have a clue -- as of Friday morning, at least -- who did.
The creator of the website, indeed, appears to have cloaked the registration details, making him or her completely anonymous. The server is located in Scottsdale, Arizona (which says little about the website itself) and was purchased from GoDaddy.com.
The misinformation (if, in fact, this isnt a DNC site) may seem like small potatoes, far overshadowed by the news of bin Ladens death. But the DNC took the incident seriously enough to push back forcefully on Friday, not only denying any connection to the provenance of the URL but also purchasing a URL of its own -- www.weeklyNOstandards.com -- to redirect to the Weekly Standards homepage.
Oooh, burn. With that sort of biting wit, the DNC might have lent its assistance to the DSCC when it was picking a new slogan a few months back. For the record, I first saw this story tweeted by a National Journal editor, who flatly asserted that OFA was the "new owner" of the domain name. Perhaps the DNC should snap up NationaJournalisticmalpractice.com while it's still available.
When I addressed this controversy yesterday, I suggested that it could simply be an instance of an overzealous supporter making a rogue, counterproductive decision:
There is a chance that (a) Wilson was misinformed, and some idiot Obama fanatic decided to buy the domain and redirect the link over to OFA's site, or (b) this is OFA's doing, but the president had no idea what they were up to. The former possibility would be excusable -- no politician can control how some ad hoc supporter behaves. The latter, however, would be inexcusable.
The DNC and OFA now insist that option (a) is correct, and that they had nothing to do with the stunt. Good. It's unseemly, and I'm glad it's been cleared up.
UPDATE: For the record, as I mentioned yesterday, I called Obama for America yesterday afternoon seeking clarification on the matter. They returned HuffPo's call first. Knock me over with a feather.
UPDATE II: As I write this, Vice President Biden is hailing the "bravery" and "gutsiness" of Barack Obama...in a speech to our troops at Fort Campbell.

What a bunch of liars. I went to that site last week and it DID redirect you to barackobama.com Now that they've been found out they shut it down. Guy Benson can believe it was a stupid fan, but I don't.

Of course they are lying about this. It isn’t in their nature to tell the truth about anything.

Someone also needs to investige how much money the stain's campaign fund has dumped into WI to fund the overturn of the 2010 elections (recalls, recounts, SSC review of Gov. Walker's new union busting law, etc.).
My opinion is that it is substantial.

This is the sort of thing campaign finance laws should address. No one should be able to advertise with or about a domain name without disclosing who it belongs to and who paid for it.
The ONLY campaign financing law should be that every penny of donor money and every expenditure is fully disclosed, promptly and accurately. With the penalty being loss of the elected office if you are shown to have violated the law.
With today's pervasive social networks there should be no problem making it possible for anyone who's interested to find out how much money was given, by whom, and how that money was spent. If I see a bumper sticker I should be able to online and find out who paid for it and how much that person or group has given to the campaign and other other campaigns.
And you would know very quickly how effective such laws would be by looking at those who are against it! If moveon.org and the other usual suspects get up in arms at the prospect of having such a law then it must be good for America! Sunshine is the best disinfectant, and that goes double for politics.

When I was a kid there was a game, or actually a word puzzle, that people would play. It involved several entities, one of whom could not tell a lie, one who would lie if need be and a third that always lied. Then they would give you the problem and what each person said. From that you had to figure out the truth.
It was a fun game and taught logic as a byproduct.
I always think of that exercise when I hear the Obama bunch say anything!
Anyone remember what it was and how it worked?

Horse dung. Hussein’s cult holds a tight grip on the worshipers of Dear Reader. They orchestrated the purchase.
Just like Hussein says HE won’t release the UBL pics. Someone else WILL, however.

This is a parody, right? GutsyCall.com? I’m sorry, but that is just so unutterably stupid that I simply refuse to believe this is happening.
