I dont want closure. There is no closure after tragedy.
I want memory, and justice, and revenge.
When youre dealing with a mass murderer who bragged about incinerating thousands of Americans and planned to kill countless more, that seems like the only civilized and morally sound response.
We briefly celebrated one of the few clear-cut military victories weve had in a long time, a win that made us feel like Americans again smart and strong and capable of finding our enemies and striking back at them without getting trapped in multitrillion-dollar Groundhog Day occupations.
But within days, Naval Seal-gazing shifted to navel-gazing.
There was the bad comedy of solipsistic Republicans with wounded egos trying to make it about how right they were and whinging that George W. Bush was due more credit. Their attempt to renew the debate about torture is itself torture.
W. preferred to sulk in his Dallas tent rather than join President Obama at ground zero in a duet that would have certainly united the country.

The leftist lawyers have so compromised the military that the only “safe” option when dealing with the enemy is executing him. No prisoners of war. Kill and hide the bodies.
Watching the Sunday shows is amazing to see no one come close to bringing this up. If Bush were POTUS, it would be NYT headline.
Remember, there are rules.
Yeah, I know, but her name escaped me
A most excellent choice. I owe you a beer.
I remember the good ole days when their were no liberals who wondered about these things.

Well... Isn’t that special.
Let us expound upon that train of thought, shall we?
The proposition is: “Killing evil does not make us evil.”
If that is so, then concomitantly and as a natural consequence it can be said that torturing evil does not make us evil, either.
Right, New York Slimes?
Cheers
Ray ... not her ... it’s a celebrity look-alike site.
A rare moment of lucidity from Maureen Dowd. She’s mostly on target. Doesn’t happen very often.
And you can bet your boots that if a Republican or conservative was POTUS Dowd would be screaming about the bloody murder of Usama and demanding the SEAL team be brought up on charges. The hypocrisy with lieberals burns hotly.
Yeah, right...0bomber would have used the 0ccaision to rub Bush's nose in the dirt. Why wasn't Bubba there as well? The 3 men would have "definitely united the country", if not totally confused it. Oh yeah, Bubba let UBL go...and had to have his wife give the go ahead to clean up his legacy.
How do you know it’s not her? No one has ever disputed it before.
They still pay that slag to write? That’s dumb even for the NYtimes.
The old line comes to mind : Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
That appllies to the hysterical columnists, too.
Bush gave a perfectly good reason for not going - there is only one sitting president at a given time, and only that one should preside over official events. Bush isn't like Clinton, running around trying to grab back the limelight that used to be on him. In other words, he has class. A concept completely alien to Mo' Dowd.
