They way I understand the term, a person who is born on United States soil is a natural born cizen (as opposed to being born elsewhere and naturalized later.)

There was a SCOTUS ruling in the 1880’s that involved a Chinese American whose mother was Chinese but the father was naturalized American. Ruling indicated as long as one parent is an adult US citizen and child born in US the child is a natural born citizen. Some freepers point out that the US Constitution requires BOTH parents to be US citizens. This issue needs to be resolved by the SCOTUS because their precedent ruling conflicts with what the US Constitution states. Obama actually is an issue because in 1961 his 19 year old American mother may not even meet the definition of an adult American citizen in 1961, thus Obama must resume the citizenship of the only adult his father a British subject.

The birth certificate debate is the dumbest waste of energy ever in American politics.

As long as conservatives continue to push this nonsense, they won't be taken seriously as policy leaders.

If someone robs a bank and gets away with it, does that mean bank robbing is no longer illegal??? Or does it mean that just because one a**hole got away with it doesn’t mean we are going to let the next one get away... Just trying to get impute on how this works???

Agnew’s father was a Greek immigrant and his mother a native of Virginia. There was some contention that (thread referenced in #3), based on the 1920 census, that his father had not yet become a naturalized citizen when Spiro was born. But I think it was concluded that census data was no proof of whether his father had been been naturalized or not by 1920.

Here we go again! Both parents need to be citizens at the time of birth, whether by birthright or naturalization. The latter was the case with Agnew’s father.

Chester Arthur hid and destroyed many of his personal records, including his Birth Certificate, because his father was a citizen of Canada at the time of his birth.

CNN, in all shallow wisdom, made the point that a fairly significant number of presidents had parents of foreign birth, they just never bothered to tell us that all parents, with the exception of President Arthur’s, were naturalized US citizens at the time of birth of their future president sons.

Chester A. Arthur &mdash: it was never actually verified Arthur was born in Canada, and not his recognized birthplace of a brief show on his home in VT owned by the historical society and open for the public to visit..quite popular, I understand, since the Obama "birther" movement.

1. In 1920, the census taker wrote down that Theodore was an alien who came to the US in 1887.

2. In 1930, the census taker wrote down that he was a naturalize­d citizen who came to the US (if that’s not the date of naturaliza­tion) in 1903.

However, you will find... this poster of all this information was removed over a year ago--but has been copied more recently to the Huffington Post where we know the liberals hang out.

Who really cares at this point, its a way to take The People's concentration off the debt ceiling, our credit rating, the rumor that Obama may require through the stroke of a pen, all business doing contracts with the government must reveal the voting records of upper management. The fact that the $2.10 gas tax [and yes it was discussed by this people] was tabled for now because of how the public would react to this added tax with already $4 gasoline to pay for roads, bridges, ironically because we are using “less” fuel, not driving as much and a push to hybrids so fewer taxes are being paid in, to be spent as promised. The controversial QE3 drumbeat. possibility.

Arthur and Agnew have had their day. Obama is not going anywhere until he loses to the next candidate opposing him. We need not lose focus of the real issues confronting the us under this Administration. The issues that effect the daily lifestyle of every American.

Good luck..but they just do not want you to confront the real issues [perhaps out of protection of their leader]..they are just repeating the political mantra expected of them.

Presidents 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 & 12, who were “present at the adoption of the constitution” became the first-generation US Citizens “by conversion”.
With George Washington being 55 and Zachary Taylor being the youngest at 3 years old.

The “second-generation” US Citizens who were born of two first generation citizens, became the Natural Born Citizens.

The Natural Born Citizens who became US Presidents are: 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 38, 40, 41, 42 & 43.
Both of their parents either became citizens at the adoption of the constitution, or were born of the new citizens, or were naturalized before the future president was born.

NOW......ask yourself this. Is it wise to ignore a serious Constitutional issue so that one does not appear “ridiculous?” Is it brave to be bullied away from studying a legal question which potentially has enormous political impact?
If we attack obama only on these “policies” who will then tell us which “policies” we are allowed to attack on? Will these same people who work to dissuade us from this question of eligibility, further confine our approved “list” of allowable issues on which to debate?

Are we to be cowards with no conviction?

Simply tell your friend “You’re right. Agnew was not a citizen but he never became president. Obama is not a citizen and DID become president. He should be removed.”

If the [former] Speaker of the House is a space alien, did she qualify as a natural born citizen?
