Dick Cheney bemoans end of harsh interrogation tactics
By Fox News From: NewsCore May 08, 2011 9:45AM
FORMER Vice President Dick Cheney has tipped his hat to Barack Obama for authorising the military operation that led to the killing of Oama bin Laden last weekend.
But, in an interview with Fox News Sunday, he also lamented the end of controversial Bush-era interrogations that many conservatives believe contributed to America's greatest counterterrorism success.
"Well, I think you've got to give him (Obama) a lot of credit for making the decision to have the SEAL team 6 conduct the raid that got bin Laden," Mr Cheney said. "It's no question that was his responsibility and I think he handled it well."
But he fanned the flames of a renewed debate over whether the so-called "enhanced interrogation techniques" used by the Bush-era CIA - including sleep deprivation and the simulated drowning technique known as waterboarding - were successful and lawful.
"I am still concerned about the fact that, I think a lot of the techniques that we had used to keep the country safe for more than seven years are no longer available," he said. "That they've been sort of taken off the table, if you will."

Yeah, you can blow their brains out, just don’t waterboard them, it might be cruel.
I still believe Panetta ordered the hit, and told Obama after the order, so he wouldn’t be caught with his pants down. Obama would never kill a kindred spirit.
Wonder how Cheney would feel if I strapped him down to a table and proceeded to extract everything he knows?
Gosh. I appreciate what Vice President Cheney did during his eight years, but now he is no longer the VP. I wish formers would stay out of everything unless they are going to run again. This just allows for Joe Biden to criticize anything and everything that Sarah will do beginning 2013. Plus after the honoring Obama part was a bit nauseating.
Another irrelevant post from someone who has never earned a dime in the private sector.....and never having been shot at in anger in the service to his country....
Since Osama was shot in the face, you know Dick
Cheney had something to do with it.

I think cheney shoots people in the butt.
Of course he would feel bad. The point is, water boarding causes no permanent damage, is performed upon our own soldiers in training, and thus is not torture. Further, it is an effective way to get information. The threat of doing it again is a powerful inducement to talk.
I read somewhere about Cheney being on the same flight as Susan Sarandon. It must have been awful to be on the same plane as that Far Lefty (with or without her latest boy toy). I would have asked for a barf bag.
I kinda think you are right. He made someone else look like he made the the decision....he has plausible deniability....until he thinks it would be better if he DID make the call....
Any particular reason you are wondering this other than you are insane?
If he were a terrorist, he should expect it.
There are alleged “leaks” that Panetta and the military brass got fed up waiting for Obama to make a decision, so they made it for him. Of course if it failed, Obama would have fired Panetta ;-)
If he starts terrorism against the US and has information.. Be my guest. Otherwise, knock off the idiocy.
He wouldn’t “feel” anything.....cause, you’d be dead.
I’m surprised Sarandon didn’t shoot off her mouth. She is a lunatic.
Progressives hate that about him or forget it.
None of the original Gitmo denizens would have known anything about OBL’s current digs in Pakistan. But maybe waterboarding some newer prisoners would have turned OBL up sooner. (On a third hand, one wonders how no Americans knew anything about what was just around the corner, good grief, from Pakistan’s own army headquarters! Good spying, not waterboarding, was lacking there.)
