It's definitely Hitler, sir.

...All this got me wondering how Hitler’s death would have been covered under the rules of engagement which govern our modern-day media circus ..."This is the BBC Home Service. Here is the news for today, May 1st, 1945, read by Alvar Liddell. Confusion continues to surround the last moments of Adolf Hitler, who died yesterday in his bunker in Berlin. Incredibly, the world’s most-wanted man had been living in the heart of the capital of the Third Reich, in plain sight of millions of Germans who maintain they were not supporters of the Nazis and had no knowledge of the Fuhrer’s crimes again humanity.

"First reports suggested that Hitler had been shot through the head in a fire-fight as special forces from the Red Army stormed the building.

"It was also claimed that he grabbed his long-term mistress Eva Braun, whom he had married in a secret ceremony, and used her as a human shield. Miss Braun was initially said to have suffered a flesh wound, but is now known to be dead.

"Subsequent statements from Supreme Allied Command indicate that the Fuhrer may have swallowed poison, before shooting himself between the eyes. The conflicting reports are attributed to ‘the fog of war’.

"Hitler’s body was burned in the garden of the Reich Chancellery, although the Allies are refusing to release photographs because they are ‘too gruesome’. Russian troops filmed the corpse, but it is feared that publication could inflame the excitable Nazi ‘street’ and lead to reprisal attacks.

"A picture apparently showing Hitler lying on his back with a bullet hole in his forehead has been dismissed as a crude forgery..."

But he wasn't buried at sea.

Stupid article. He killed himself and was discovered by fellow lawless, godless totalitarians. How is that at all relevant?

Nobody really knows where he is buried/if at all.

The Russians SAID they confirmed it was his body via dental records - and then hauled his bones off to Moscow. Later they said they disposed of them - but others are pretty sure they are still in a crate somewhere in Moscow.

There was confusion. That’s why British intelligence sent Hugh Trevor-Roper to Germany after the war to confirm the death of Hitler.

I believe Trevor-Roper has taken the positon that Hitler’s body was never recovered?

The Russians have come up with 50 different versions of what happened to his body. The only thing they seem to be short on is evidence.

Don’t worry. Very soon, there will be a Bin Laden sighting and we’ll have a whole new conspiracy to run with. When I was a kid, I remember hearing that Hitler was living in Jersey City!

“There was confusion”

Is that the standard? Both situations were confused and involved militaries and someone dying, therefore I can write an article about it? Face it, whoever wrote this is a hack and it’s a waste of time bore.

You may count on it.

I think the "Downfall" parody where Hitler learns what happens to him at the end of "Inglorious Basterds" is pretty close to what you are asking for. One of the better parodies, too.

In the early morning hours of 2 May 1945, the Soviets captured the Reich Chancellery. Down in the Führerbunker, General Krebs and General Burgdorf committed suicide by gunshot to the head.

Later on 2 May, the remains of Hitler, Braun, and two dogs (thought to be Blondi and her offspring Wulf) were discovered in a shell crater by a unit of SMERSH which had orders to find Hitler’s body. The autopsy recorded both gunshot damage to Hitler’s skull and glass shards in his jaw. Josef Stalin was wary about believing his old treaty partner/nemesis was dead, and restricted the information that was publicly released. The remains of Hitler and Braun were repeatedly buried and exhumed by SMERSH during the unit’s relocation from Berlin to a new facility in Magdeburg where they, along with the charred remains of propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels and those of his wife Magda Goebbels and their six children, were buried in an unmarked grave beneath a paved section of the front courtyard. The location was kept highly secret.

In 1969, Soviet journalist Lev Bezymensky’s book on the death of Hitler was published in the West. It included the SMERSH autopsy report but, because of earlier disinformation attempts, Western historians thought it untrustworthy.

In 1970, the SMERSH facility, by then controlled by the KGB, was scheduled to be handed over to the East German government. Fearing that a known Hitler burial site might become a Neo-Nazi shrine, then-KGB director Yuri Andropov authorised an operation to destroy the remains that had been buried in Magdeberg on 21 February 1946. A Soviet KGB team was given detailed burial charts. On 4 April 1970 they secretly exhumed five wooden boxes containing the remains of “10 or 11 bodies...in an advanced state of decay”. The remains were thoroughly burned and crushed, after which the ashes were thrown into the Biederitz river, a tributary of the nearby Elbe.

That’s the story I’ve always heard, and that comes from having not only Czech students from the Czech MFA and MOD, but from older German students of mine who were in the StaSi during the DDR period. I’m an English teacher here in Europe, by the way.

The government didn’t lie AS MUCH in those days (it did lie now and then, however).

“Sincerely” I am so sorry that I neglected to include the word “sincerely” in my earlier apology. It was sincere and heartfelt. Please forgive me. If I would repost if I could.

“The Russians have come up with 50 different versions of what happened to his body....”

Only 50....after all these YEARS. Cheeez...we’ve had more than 50 versions of the UBL yarn in less than a WEEK! But methinks that constantly changing their stories is a very common trait among commie-libs.

It wasn’t just the German army trying to kill Herr Schickelgruber in operation Valkyrie.

http://yourdailyhistorylesson.tumblr.com/post/655213210/operation-foxley

In operation Foxley the British planned to drop a couple snipers outside Hitler’s Bavarian retreat and pop his top while he was walking to a nearby teahouse. For some reason it was never attempted. It may be that they figured he was doing enough harm to the Reich playing general.

there is another narrative. I do not vouch for the truth of this narrative, only that it is another narrative. First, Hitler used doubles. It was a double that experienced everything in AAA’s post. Hitler and Braun were drugged, Braun overdosed and died, but Hitler was brought to a freighter which eventually brought him to Argentina. We have to remember that all the “official” accounts we have were either from loyal Nazi lackeys or Soviet communists. The Soviets would lose alot of face if it were proved true they allowed Hitler to escape from the city they were allowed to take. Loyal lackeys would not have blabbed about doubles. No real forensic evidence has ever been presented to prove the “official” narrative. While we are at it, let’s talk about Martin Bormann. There is an alternative narrative about Bormann being smuggled out of Spain in 1946 on a U-boat. The official history is that his body was found in Berlin in 1970 and was verifed by dental records. If I was in Bormann’s position, I would have in early 1945 selected a double, replaced my dental records with those of the double, then buried the double before escaping.
