The Candidates...
Gary Johnson
Johnson served as governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2002. He founded what would become one of the largest construction companies in New Mexico. He has competed in several triathlons and climbed Mount Everest.
Herman Cain
Cain is the former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza and former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He lost the Georgia Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat in 2004. He was recently the host of Atlanta-based radio show.
Rick Santorum
Santorum served two terms in the U.S. House and two terms in the U.S. Senate. He became the Senate's third-ranking Republican in 2001. He was defeated for reelection in 2006.
Ron Paul
Paul is serving his 11th full term in the U.S. House. Hes an obstetrician-gynecologist and was the Libertarian nominee for president in 1988. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for president in 2008
Tim Pawlenty
Pawlenty served two terms as governor of Minnesota, from 2002 to 2010. He served in the Minnesota House from 1992 until 2002. He is the son of a truck driver.
Some candidates, like Romney, Daniels and Palin, don't have those limitations. They didn't show up. Maybe they're not serious either?
I’d rather pick from this crew than one that involved Romney, Huckabee, and McCain.
Point well taken.
He has picked up over 4000 Facebook fans in the past few hours!
I would tell any candidate who wants to win to forget the old style political calculus and maneuvering. If you lead people will notice and we need leadership now. Even if things turn up or down from here, people will remember when you stood up.
Are they waiting for it to get worse? To see if a recovery finally takes hold? Is it because they're all so wildly wealthy, insulated from "little things" like inflation, unemployment and gas prices, and disconnected from the fear, anger and uncertainty in the rest of us?
The GOP is looking for excuses to raise the debt ceiling for as little political backlash or policy gain as possible. It's mind-numbing.
A pipe dream is for someone looking for the perfect conservative to come along who will win over all the people while he or she slices up the liberals and the media and sweeps the RINOs out with the trash. This perfect conservative who will knock Romney out in the first primary better show his face soon or forever be a coward. Because I see nothing but RINOs around Cain right now.
I’ll take an honest conservative over a RINO any day.
Coming into this debate I liked Herman Cain and Gary Johnson, willing to accept Rick Santorum. Ron Paul is alright but his foreign policy stands bother me. I didn’t care for, nor did trust Tim Pawlenty.
When the debate ended I really liked Herman Cain. I was totally turned off by Gary Johnson. His immigration stand totally lost me. Rick Santorum is still alright, but he’s part of the old guard. I still feel the same about Ron Paul and Pawlenty.
If I have to pick now, I’d go with Cain all the way. He’s new blood, which is something the GOP needs. He’s articulate, good natured, funny and fully understands government has to get out of the way for business to create jobs.
He did quite well for himself tonight and should get some notice now, so he better watch it. The media will be gunning for him now as will RINO’s like Romney and Pawlenty. I hope he has some good people on his staff preparing him for these assults.
Yes, I saw “THEE KISS”....wonder if Jimbo ever washed his face? at least saved the cloth he might have used. HA!.....Has to be one of the many highlights in his life. I always enjoying seeing those photos...they pop up at just the perfect time too.
Must admit I liked Todds photos...he really is comfortable to look at....tsk tsk...enough said.
Before the debate I was for Sarah Palin but Herman Cain really impressed me.
The top three in the debates in my opinion...
1. Cain
2. Santorum
3. Pawlenty
Palin wasn’t in the debate and has not said she is running. I liked Cain...not ready to rally around any candidate until I can see the lay of the land so to say....
HOWEVER there are those I absolutely will not support in the primaries. Once the candidate is chosen to run against Obama, then there is no choice but to vote for ANYONE BUT OBAMA.
That's true. What is also true is viewers are getting to know those possible candidates they saw tonight (they do not wait for the "lay of the land") so these possible candidates are a bit like incumbents to the late arrivals such as Trump, Newt and the others. Those who really liked a particular possible candidate tonight will be paying more attention to that one. The late comers will have to work a little harder to win those votes back.
You are right about Santorum. He could not even carry his home state of Pennsylvania. All his shenanigans in Pittsburg make for effective opposition ads.
And for flip-flopping, he would make Romney blush.
Paul is a loon. Johnson is gay, he’s such a flamer look how he acts.Cain did great followed by Pawlenty and Santorum.IMO.
Ron Paul doesn’t think we should be in the middle east. He also thinks we brought on the attacks. My understanding is Santorum is for enhanced interrogations. If not I will scratch him off the list as a candidate!
What?
Palin would probably dwarf all of them. What does Mitt have that Pawlenty doesn’t btw. “oh, Mitt’s not running, Pawlenty looks ok”.
If Palin’s up there, it’s a much bigger story, a much different situation than if Mitt’s there. Mitt’s only fame, really, comes from doing this 4 years ago and doing fairly well. Mitt probably won’t lose Mormons to Pawlenty, but the average RINO could accept Pawlenty as a reasonable RINO. Romney has a lot of supporters who basically view him as a reasonable choice. Pawlenty could easily be seen as a reasonable choice, and if Romney isn’t there. Romney’s supporters don’t necessarily love Romney.
By being in the debates, Gary Johnson makes Ron Paul’s views seem more mainstream in the Republican Party. End the “war on drugs” - 40% at least, yes.
And if Gary Johnson builds a small number of supporters, if he knows that he isn’t going to win, he’ll likely endorse Ron Paul, before Iowa perhaps.
What are you talking about.
Much of what the tea party stands for, Ron Paul was saying in 2008. In 2007, December, Ron Paul raised in 1 day $6 Million from the Tea Party Money Bomb.
I personally don’t think there’s a father of the tea party.
Like I said, Santelli is also a pick for father of the tea party, but I really think there isn’t really one.
Why don’t you like Pawlenty? His record as governor was pretty good and he’s a decent enough conservative.
