The Candidates...
Gary Johnson
Johnson served as governor of New Mexico from 1995 to 2002. He founded what would become one of the largest construction companies in New Mexico. He has competed in several triathlons and climbed Mount Everest.
Herman Cain
Cain is the former chief executive of Godfather's Pizza and former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. He lost the Georgia Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat in 2004. He was recently the host of Atlanta-based radio show.
Rick Santorum
Santorum served two terms in the U.S. House and two terms in the U.S. Senate. He became the Senate's third-ranking Republican in 2001. He was defeated for reelection in 2006.
Ron Paul
Paul is serving his 11th full term in the U.S. House. Hes an obstetrician-gynecologist and was the Libertarian nominee for president in 1988. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for president in 2008
Tim Pawlenty
Pawlenty served two terms as governor of Minnesota, from 2002 to 2010. He served in the Minnesota House from 1992 until 2002. He is the son of a truck driver.
So only Cain and Paul remain. The rest are wasting time.
That would explain Johnson’s awkward, catty unprompted criticism of Governor Palin’s outdoors pursuits. That was offensive and dumb of him.
Gays do seem to have a particularly visceral pattern of hostility toward Palin - see also Hollywood and media (way over-represented by liberal gays, imho).
BTTT!!!!!!
Rush sees it too? I didn’t realize that. WOW!!!
I’m gonna recant that, it’s just not right. LOL
The man has hiked Everest so he has very high ambition, but he doesn’t command a presence.
I meant...Of the bunch tonight.. and someone memo Newt not to bother announcing in Ga. it is a waste of time.
I missed it. But, would you actually consider any of these people contenders for the nomination?
DeMint:”I’ve been in Iowa, New Hampshire and now South Carolina and I’m telling people, don’t jump in right away”
Sounds like he may run.
This was not a debate, it was a turkey shoot, loaded with have you stopped beating your wife questions, especially the first one where they tried to make all of them compliment the president for OBL.
Cain was correct, he may not be electable, but he is more right than the rest of them. I certainly would be comfortable with him.
Santorum came in second. No way. Who did Luntz focus group?
“I missed it. But, would you actually consider any of these people contenders for the nomination?”
It’s too early to tell. Cain and Santorum did well. Pawlenty was a distant third, probably not ending his chances.
Paul was Paul and Johnson probably ended his campaign tonight.
Cain / Palin won’t happen in 2012.
But that focus group on Fox increased the likelihood of Palin / Cain.
Clearly Cain just entered the group of real candidates.
Santorum obviously has the recognition already, and with his second place (it seems) showing he’s a draft pick too.
And Paul. Because nobody else is like him. Incidentally Paul scored some HUGE applause with some seriously libertarian positions, as a small-l libertarian I was encouraged with the crowd reaction. Not sure I’d vote for Paul, but he’s a good addition to the dynamic.
I don’t think anyone else there improved their potential tonight. Those three move on to the next round.
Thanks.
LLS
I bet his bong collection is impressive.
I wonder if he uses bourbon for the bong water? Does he drink said bourbon afterwards?
You should state the reason for all those that don't know Georgia Politics.
1.) The emerging Republican party felt that it owed its support to Isakson for being a longtime Republican in a state that was Yellow Dog Democrat since 1870.
2.) The Democrats had no chance to win the General Election so Democrats crossed over and voted for the RINO Isakson in our Republican primary.
3.) The Conservative vote was diluted in the primary, split between Cain and Collins, causing the milquetoast Isakson.
I wasn’t happy with RPs answer.
I thought that if the Federal Laws regarding drugs were removed, States would be able to set their own laws.
Ron Paul was pretending that heroin was legal. He should’ve reminded people that Heroin would probably still be illegal in all 50 states, so there is really no worry of legal Heroin.
It worries me a bit that he strayed from what I thought his position was - Federal Government is too big - States can make their own drug policy. And nothing will change anywhere unless a state wants to change it.
You son sounds like a very wise young man and his summary of the debate is spot on. I’ve been following Cain for the last few weeks, but tonight was the first my husband had listened to him and he’s now a fan of the “Herman-ator” too.
jmho...but tonight I enjoyed listening to Cain..and the Johnston character, never heard of him,,what year was he Gov. of NM? but as an adoptive mom, his answer toward abortion was enough to say. ‘Bye~Bye Johnston’
