Obama in NY for Ground Zero 'cathartic moment'

NEW YORK — President Barack Obama arrived in New York City Thursday morning, on a mission to bury the memory of Osama bin Laden by honoring those who died in the fiery Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center.

In private talks with families and a somber ceremony at Ground Zero, Obama wants to let New York have its own moment of justice.

His trip comes after the president sharply rejected calls to release photos of a slain bin Laden so the world could see some proof of death.

The president said he would not risk giving propaganda to extremists or gloat by publicizing grotesque photos of a terrorist leader shot in the head.

To those who keep on doubting, Obama said, "You will not see bin Laden walking on this earth again."

His government, meanwhile, insisted the shooting of an unarmed bin Laden during a daring raid in Pakistan was lawful and in national self-defense.

Obama's New York visit is intended to have a measured tone — not a bookend to President George W. Bush's bullhorn moment, but more somber and private.

White House spokesman Jay Carney called it a "cathartic moment for the American people."

Obama does not even have scheduled remarks during his trip. Yet it is likely Obama will make comments during his time at the 9/11 memorial, where he will lay a wreath. That ceremony is scheduled for 1.30 p.m. ET.

Obama will visit a bustling construction site that bears little resemblance to the pit that became ground zero in the months after Sept. 11, 2001.

I guess this wouldn't be a big deal if he'd ever bothered to go to Ground Zero before this. It's not like he's not gotten around to going to NYC. Or maybe I've gotten too cynical to be objective.

Cynical? Hell!

I’ll bet Obama cheered as he watched the planes hit the towers....and his ugly wife too!

I wish he would just go away and give us all a “cathartic moment”.

For someone who views Al-Qaeda and terrorism as a simple “law enforcement” issue, Obama sure is milking UBL’s death for all its worth.

One more event and it will cross over into overkill/tacky.

On the other hand it may be a teachable moment for obama when he tries to explain why we can’t see the dead Osama. Hope he gets booed off the stage.

For someone who claims to be so afraid to incite violence among the terrorists you would have thought Obama would have wanted to keep this low key. I mean, to do this on the anniversary of 911 is one thing but to do this now is only connected with the death of Bin Laden (even though the real reason is for photos and video for the 2012 campaign).

Excuse making by MSNBC because no-one is showing up on the streets to welcome and cheer him like he hoped for. There is no-one there except police and media....LOL!!

Wonder where the ‘rent a union thug’ mob is staging?

I can't imagine the big 0 would pass up an opportunity in front of the camera to share some of his grandiloquent, historic oratory with the American people.

You see, we're not allowed to spike the football by publishing the death photos, but we are allowed to use the moment to our political advantage.

There are different rules for different people.

Of course we won’t be seeing Bin Laden walking the earth again. We haven’t seen him since 2001 when he died.

I don’t think the spokesman knows what cathartic means.

What is the sheer idolatry of a toady is this "Obama wants to let ...", as if Obama is in absolute omnipotent control of the world.

“The term catharsis has been used for centuries as a medical term meaning a “purging.” Most commonly in a medical context, it euphemistically refers to a purging of the bowels. A drug, herb, or other agent administered as a strong laxative is termed a cathartic.”

Or it could make you puke.

I’m just sayin’.

I bet he sat in front of the TV with his buddies Rev Wright and Louis Farrakan.

Every time a body hit the sidewalk they gave each other a high five. When the buildings collapsed they started dancing and cheering, and “spiked the football”.

O’dirtbag is a POS.
