An Indiana couple was arrested on gunrunning charges after they tried to sell several guns including an assault rifle to undercover police, officials said today.

DeAndre Hampton, 25, and Alana Arila, 23, both of Indianapolis, were ordered held on bail after they were arrested last week when they arranged to meet with an undercover officer from the Cook County Sheriff's Special operations unit, according to a press release from Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart.

Had they been ATF and sold them across the border to drug cartels, then it would be OK.

Illinois has some pretty strict gun laws. Maybe it is because they were Indiana residents selling guns across state lines. I don’t know how a private sale would work in with the Illinois gun owner ID requirement, either.

From yahoo.com

f you want quality and accuracy go AR15, if you want economy and ruggedness, go for the AK, if you want economy and, well, more economy, go for the SKS. The SKS really shouldn’t be included alongside the AK and AR. It was intended to be a battle rifle, not an assault rifle. Although you can dress up an SKS with fancy stocks and high capacity magazines, they are not what I’d call reliable additions to the gun. These additions are more for playing around than for serious use.

Assault Rifles

OK!
I think We ALL KNOW BY NOW that semi automatics are not “Assault rifles” - and damn the media for confusing the issue yadda yadda, yadda. However the full auto counterparts of the AR and the AK ARE considered “assault rifles” and in CASUAL CONVERSATION between PRO-GUN parties I believe that refering to the semi-auto versions as such is easier than using much longer terminology which ends up requiring further un-necessary explaination, and involves an experienced gun person telling a “new recruit” that they’re WRONG, and that they DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY’RE TALKING ABOUT is counterproductive to our cause and recruitment of future “experts”. Do you want to firmly convince the PRO-GUN newbie that to be an expert you also have to be a stickler for terminology AMONG FRIENDS and a reactive jerk?

A HOUSE DIVIDED AGAINST ITSELF SHALL FALL. To have that happen under the pretext of “proper useage of terminology” is the worst sort of folly, guys.

They're assault rifles! Obviously they're very, very bad.

Our leaders know best about these things.

They were Indiana, um, ....ians in Illinois selling firearms without running the sale through a local FFL and turning it into a dealer sale. That would be across the line in any state, but in the PRI, it's probably a capital offense.

What an idiot. If they weren’t stolen he could have made the guy meet him across the border in IN and no one would have said a word.

If they were in Cook County the county has banned assault weapons and magazines that can hold more than ten rounds of ammunition. A semi-automatic firearm is defined by these laws as an assault weapon if it has both a detachable magazine and a pistol grip, some states further define an assault weapon as a weapon that is self-reloading or automatically chambers a round, cartridge, or bullet without additional slide, bolt or other manual action. This could include pistols.
