LOS ANGELES (AP) Los Angeles police say Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Hines Ward was briefly detained at gunpoint in a mix-up over a reported stolen car but has been released.
Sgt. Maria Morrison says Hines and a woman friend were stopped in her car at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday in North Hollywood because the woman had reported it stolen.
Morrison says Hines was taken from the car at gunpoint and handcuffed until the woman proved the car was hers. The sergeant says the driver reported the vehicle stolen on April 19 after forgetting where she had parked it. She later found it but never canceled the report.

It’s Hines Ward. What kind of moron wouldn’t recognize Hines?
‘A woman’ at 1:30? Crikey, I hope she was a friend of his wife or something.
I see that one of the Cleveland Indians got picked up for drunk driving last night.
You know what they say about Indians and liquor . . . (sorry, non-pc joke).
Thank you, thank you...I'll be here all week.
I didn’t know he was married. Oops!
Yes, and he’s got a child.
Well at least she's a natural blonde.
“What kind of moron wouldnt recognize Hines?”
My kind, I guess.
He was accompanied by “a lady who was not his partner on Dancing with the Stars.”
LOL I was thinking the same thing about a drunken indian but this one has a twist since this drunken indian is asian.

She probably called BlondeStar to help her find her car.

Awwwww.
They still play professional football?
Hines Ward has a rep for having screwed every woman in Pittsburgh (except this one!!). It’s well-known that he isn’t faithful to his wife. That’s why I wish people would stop putting these jackasses on pedestals, no matter how well he can dance or play football. He’s a jerk.
Not in Pittsburgh.
Hines Ward or not, the police did the right thing IMHO, at least as far as detaining Ward until the situation could be straightened out. The car was reported stolen. The woman should have canceled the report.
I'm curious though to know what the probable cause was for pulling them over though. Even at 1:30 AM I don't think the police would just randomly pull over a car.
Nowadays its standard procedure for cops to drive around and run the tags on all the cars they encounter to see if anything pops up. To me this is an invasion of privacy, but so far it seems to go unchallenged. I got pulled over once driving my company car while doing nothing wrong. Cop said the tag didn't match the car it was to be issued to. I showed him the registration and he let me go.
