Hundreds Show Up For Bogus Job Fair May 4, 2011 1:10 PM

DETROIT (WWJ) – A text message promised a job fair that was supposed to be held Wednesday morning by Chrysler at Detroit’s Lafayette Tower. Crowds of people reportedly showed up – only to find out there never was such an event.

That included a client of Corrinda Washington, program director of Michigan Legal Services.

She told WWJ Newsradio 950 her client borrowed money for a ride to what she thought would be a shot at finding work.

“She said there were hundreds of people, that there were people getting off the bus in droves; that there were people getting dropped off, people getting out of cabs. When she was talking to me she was just saying, ‘Here are more people showing up’,” Washington said.

Recently, there have been other Metro Detroit job fairs advertised by word-of-mouth that also turned out to be false.

“It’s just really sad, because it just speaks to the desperation and the climate of unemployment. I think that it’s just a cruel practice,” she said.

Washington suggests that if you hear about a job fair, you should contact your local Michigan “Works First” office to verify that it is legitimate.

The only solution to detroit is to bulldoze it, and perhaps one day return it to farmland.

Lots of unused farmland all over Michigan. Any idea of turning Detroit into farmland needs to include the billions of dollars required for soil restoration and decontamination.

“The only solution to detroit is to bulldoze it, and perhaps one day return it to farmland. The people of detroit need to find new places to live and they need to realize that being democrats is what caused their city to die in the first place.”...........

IMO, UNIONS have been the big cause for Detroit’s downfall coupled with the Democrats. If the US keeps going the way it is, you can expect a lot more “Detroits”.

I think Wisconsin Governor’s Scott Walker did the right thing when trying to “de-fang” the unions there.

Unions are democrats. The words are almost interchangeable. But I do agree that the unions did destroy the industrial base there. The rest of the democrats destroyed the rest of the city

I think Wisconsin Governor’s Scott Walker did the right thing when trying to “de-fang” the unions there.

Exactly correct.

Wisconsin makes the news but Scott Walker is coddling the unions compared to the beating they’re taking here in Michigan. We’ve already freed some 20,000 forced union members who are home child care workers and things are moving forward on freeing another 20,000 health care workers forced to unionize.

Half the schools in Detroit will be closed and some 5000 school employees have already gotten their layoff notices. Emergency managers are going into cities and canceling union contracts.

If you enjoy the sound of squealing pigs, just google Rachael Maddow + Rick Snyder.

Wait another ten years or so, then build it in Chicago. They’re next.

In March 2011, Detroit-Livonia-Dearborn, Mich., registered the highest jobless rate among the divisions, 12.7 percent

That was down 3.3%!

Dearborn is the home of Greenfield Village, I hope that GV doesn't deteriorate!
