All things were finalized on the cross.
The love of God is slow to wrath........but wrath it must, for darkness will be put away forever.
They don't merely emote against believers, they howl against the very God whose judgment is final.
Insecurity indeed.
Well, it's not new, the seeds of this were sown in the 16th century -- the "Enlightenment".
By the 17th century you had the clubs like the Hellfire club starting up in England . It was the fashion then to make fun of God and Christianity. The club motto was Fais ce que tu voudras (Do what thou wilt),
The atmosphere among the "elite" in England at this time was one in which it was the norm to blaspheme and ridicule Christianity.
The president of this club was the Devil (of course, they didn't believe in the devil, they just wanted to shock sensibilities). England at that time was filled with abbies that were in ruins since the time of Cromwell and earlier when they had been disbanded and the alm collections take by the king.
One of these ruins, Medmenham abbey became a center of this hell-fire club where they would have mock black masses, eat things like "Holy Ghost pie" etc. etc.
