An Egyptian doctor was sentenced to 500 lashes and five years in prison in Saudi Arabia for being alone with a woman in a private apartment, dpa reported Tuesday according Saudi media.
The Urologist was sentenced on Monday for the incident, which took place last year in the conservative country, according to Saudi newspaper Sabq.
The doctor, whose name has been withheld from the public, was initially arrested by police tasked with "the protection of virtue and the prevention of vice."
This month, King Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz vowed to boost the special police unit with an additional 200 million riyals (around 53 million dollars) to carry out their tasks.
