I have an acquittance that is a business owner who attended a fundraiser for Pete Wilson (yes, the ex-CA gov.) back when he ran for POTUS in 1996. I remember asking him: “Why, he had 0 chance of doing anything?” His answer: “It's like buying a lottery ticket, there's a tiny chance it might pay off.” He also has donated to Rats as well.
