Sarah Palin has parted ways with the neoconservative foreign policy advisers who had been writing speeches and advising her on policy since she joined the McCain campaign.
An aide to Palin, Tim Crawford, confirmed that Orion Strategies' Randy Scheunemann and Michael Goldfarb are no longer working for her PAC. They parted, both sides said on good terms.
"Randy flat out said, 'We can't give you the time,'" Crawford said.
(snip)
Crawford said they've been replaced by Peter Schweizer, a writer and fellow at the Hoover Institution who blogs regularly at Andrew Breitbart's Big Peace.
The personnel shift carries an ideological charge. Scheunemann, the former executive director of the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq, is a longtime neoconservative stalwart, as is Goldfarb, a former reporter and protege of Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol. They crafted for Palin a policy platform and voice reflecting an eagerness to use American force. The pair, who helped Palin with press and debate prep in 2008, were also something of Palin's last link to Washington's political establishment.
But Palin parted ways with that aggressive internationalism in a speech yesterday, condemning U.S. involvement in Libya and laying out a more cautious philosophy of the use of force. Schweizer has articulated a more skeptical view of the use of American force and promotion of democracy abroad.
"Egypt does a lot of things wrong, but they have also been pro-American on a lot of levels," he wrote of Obama's support for protesters in Egypt -- which was being roundly criticized by neoconservatives for being insufficiently vigorous. "When protests broke out in Iran earlier during his tenure in the White House, Obama was not willing to openly back them, at least until he came under considerable fire. But now he is supporting them in Egypt?"

If she would announce, she would rocket to number one.
[condemning U.S. involvement in Libya and laying out a more cautious philosophy of the use of force]
If she did that, she is certainly the ticket.

Odd, given that she was advocating ‘boots on the ground’ in Libya before US/NATO did anything.
Yeah I guess it’s real common for someone with no intent of running for office to retain a staff of paid advisors.
I’m happy for Palin.
IMHO, neocons are libs who like to start wars for monetary reasons and then send your kids to go fight.
This is a good move on Palin’s part. Enough of this nation building and attempting to scab democracy on top of these dysfunctional cultures. We’ve now made an even bigger mess in the ME we’ll be paying for over the next many years.
Bump!
“Odd, given that she was advocating boots on the ground in Libya before US/NATO did anything”.
Show me the written sourse or post a link to a video showing her saying that.
Written source.
Schweizer is big-time -- Oxford grad, author of a number of books including two on Reagan and the Cold War. He was at the Reagan Ranch the weekend Palin spoke there. Can his fellow Hoover Institution scholars, Victor Davis Hanson and Thomas Sowell, be coming onboard as advisors? They've both spoken highly of her.
Peter Schweizer is a research fellow at the Hoover Institution. A former consultant to NBC News, he also served as a member of the Ultraterrorism Study Group at the U.S. government's Sandia National Laboratory.
His books have been translated into eleven languages. His most recent works include Architects of Ruin (Harper Collins, 2009), Makers and Takers (Doubleday, 2008), Do as I Say (Not as I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy (Doubleday, 2005). Other books include The Bushes: Portrait of a Dynasty (Doubleday, 2004/Anchor, 2005), which the New York Times called "the best" of the books on the Bush family, and Reagan's War: The Epic Story of His Forty-Year Struggle and Final Triumph over Communism (Doubleday, 2002/Anchor 2003).
His first novel, Chain of Command (coauthored with Caspar Weinberger), was released by Simon and Schuster in June 2005. Publisher's Weekly, in a starred review, called it a "debut political thriller crackling with a chilling authenticity and riveting dirty dealing.
He is coeditor of Landmark Speeches of the American Conservative Movement (Texas A & M University Press, 2006) and The Reagan Presidency: Assessing the Man and His Legacy (Rowman and Littlefield, 2005) as well as editor of The Fall of the Wall: Reassessing the Cause and Consequences of the Collapse of Communism (Hoover Institution Press, 2000).
Schweizer is executive producer of In the Face of Evil, an epic documentary based on his book Reagan's War. The New York Post declared it "the must-see movie of the season...disturbing and deeply moving." The film is a winner of the 2004 Liberty Film Festival.
His written work has appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, National Review, Foreign Affairs, and elsewhere. He has spoken before dozens of corporate audiences including those at Amoco, Arthur Anderson, the Independent Petroleum Association of America, as well as numerous student groups including Young America's Foundation, University of Virginia, and Florida State University.
He has appeared on ABC News, NBC News, CBS News, Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, and the BBC.
Schweizer received his M.Phil. degree from Oxford University and his B.A. degree from George Washington University.
HUH? NOT Sarah Palin!
Post #4 says it all,Frank does good work.
You are 100% WRONG....3 separate times she said she wasn’t for “boots on the ground” Now come on, this is Politico for Pete’s sake, they lie in between truths
“If she would announce, she would rocket to number one”.
Only Governor Palin or Donald Trump would have the monetary resources to compete with Obama’s billion dollar war chest. Palin could raise it and Trump has his own cash. No other Republican has the ability to raise that kind of cash to compete.
