Listening to the video, I think it is more an utterly inept attempt by Matthews to bestow praise. It mainly reveals how profoundly ignorant Matthews is of the military, holding to the old leftist bigotry that military people are mindless, squarebashing automatons. No one is more out of the box and creative in their thinking than skilled special operations types. They have the latitude of insurgents with the logistical support of regular forces. Lots of room for creativity there.
From the beginning the American manifestation of Leftism has been ALL about being cool and hip.
