Medical Deferment Allowed Trump to Avoid Vietnam War

After taking credit for President Obama releasing his long-form birth certificate to quell doubts about his citizenship, real estate developer Donald Trump may have to release his own records to address questions about his past.

Donald Trump, who claimed this week that a high draft number kept him from fighting for his country in Vietnam, actually received a series of student deferments while in college and a medical deferment after graduation, according to Selective Service records.

The Smoking Gun first reported the revelation after obtaining the paperwork from the National Archives and Records Administration. But it's still not known what medical problem Trump had or whether he still has it.

For how much longer?

Every day we lose more. More jobs. More industry. More intellectual property. More national treasure. More wealth.

More of America.

It never stops. Yet so many on our side, see nothing wrong with this.

It’s mind-boggling.

I was in college getting deferments and hoping it would be over with by the time I finished. Not by a long shot. I got drafted. Didn’t hurt me a bit, although I wasn’t real pleased about it at the time.

In my whole life, including service in the army, I never dreamed that I would see fighter pilots mocked as draft dodgers, and non-military.

This USAF veteran thinks that Trump is a draft-evading weasel.

Believe me, folks, this self-important, wheeler-dealer, flim-flam man is not our friend.

The Dems love hoaxes and stings (ref. global warming, etc), and Donald Trump is just their latest .

"The military isn’t improved by draftees."

Bovine scatology.

The real question is, why did he never serve, draft or no draft, war or no war?

I graduated high school in 1977.

There was nothing popular about being in the military but I went to the recruiters office anyway. Carter was President so that was no motivation. They weren't even trying. I wanted to be a pilot and they told me to go to college instead. No motivation at all.

I took the recruiter's advice and went to college. Subsequently I started at the bottom and worked up to a good job. Some of the people I hired were Vets. They had no real skills, made less and some had real problems.

I didn't want to be them and had no compulsion to join after all of that.

I second guess a lot of decisions that I have made but I am fair to myself and look back and agree with this decision.

I don’t have to be drafted to be sick of the deferment talk. Men got draft notices - some went, some got deferments, some fled, some went to jail. There is no more draft. My husband enlisted but was rejected because of a medical deferment. My brothers were drafted. My uncles enlisted. I had cousins that were drafted and I had cousins that enlisted. I know the draft, I lived those days. I do not have to be drafted to know the draft and I am sick of it as issue. Six guys from my high school graduation class died in Nam. Do not push me on this issue.

Again, to me he should have enlisted, draft or no draft, but during those many years of dealing with the draft board he was also 1-A more than once.

“Besides, the Vietnam war was overwhelmingly fought by volunteers anyway, it was not like WWII that was fought with few volunteers and mostly draftees.”

Support “overwhelmingly” because that was not what I recall about the Vietnam era.

“2/3 of the men who served in Vietnam were volunteers. 2/3 of the men who served in World War II were drafted. [Westmoreland] Approximately 70% of those killed were volunteers. [McCaffrey] Many men volunteered for the draft so even some of the draftees were actually volunteers.”

taken from

http://www.vhfcn.org/stat.htmlTherefore 33% of those who served in Vietnam were draftees, and draftees made up 30% of those killed in Vvietnam.

Hardly “overwhelming” by my definition.

Some who “enlisted” did so in anticipation of their expected draft notices. (The case with LTG James C. Riley, who served 37 years)

Others enlisted to get training and/or duty stations, again in anticipation of getting drafted. (The case of my BIL)

My son went in during the 90s when nothing was going on, it took every thing we could muster to get him to join the Army and do his hitch, but I tried to explain to him that he would be very happy about it once he reached his 40s and older, no matter where he went in life in his civilian career.

Protectionist Chumps like you support bla bla...

Ya, lets support the tens of thousands of companies and businesses that have set up shop in Communist countries only to sell *us* Communist products for profit...And dare anyone, including government to get in their way.

Of course who do ya think bankrolls the political campaigns of those in government?

Who do ya think hires the lobbyist who in turn bump bellys and wine and dine the corrupt in government?

Do you have clue here?

Profits regardless of consequences, will eventually leave America dead on the floor.

I call a 70% split overwhelming.

WWII was fought mostly by draftees, Vietnam was fought mostly by volunteers.

“you haven’t heard of the invasion of this country. Libyans blew a plane out of the sky with Americans on it.”
______________________________________________

Yes, a Libyan terrorist was the bomber, but do you have evidence that Gaddafi and his government was complicate in that event.
That being said, I have no love or use for Gadaffi, but I DO have a hate for the the Muslim extremist that like nothing better then to kill non Muslims, aka Americans.

It would be fine with me if we went in and subjugated the entire middle east, but that will never happen.

Didn’t Clinton have a questionable draft record?

Clinton was told to report. He cut a deal then reneged on the deal. He got away with it.

Trump was never told to report. He did his physicals. He got legal deferments. And, on top of all that, had a very high draft number. Over 350. But Trump was a draft dodger, not Bill! /s

What you said.

It’s astonishing, so many cannot see something so obvious.

So many SMART, geo-politically savvy conservatives, who instinctively understood the Soviet threat.

Remain clueless, about the much more significant - the truly existential threat - posed to America by a China determined to strip us of everything.

Make no mistake.

China is winning. FAST.
