Listening to Col David Hunt (Retired) on Fox right now explaining how the rules of engagement did not permit the Americans the Afghan pilot killed to have loaded weapons on base. The angry pilot simply shot them execution style after he left the meeting and retrieved a loaded firearm from his office.
Have any of you heard this before? I am outraged.
How do you fight a war with one hand tied behind your back?
The ROE over there should be ‘depopulate the entire islamic zone from Africa to Indonesia’. Anything less is insanity. We have the tools to do it and every possible motivation, but we’re spineless.
Quadaffi didn't put his gold in Swiss - or other - banks. That's well known and that's the REAL reason we're there - the others, Italy and France, for that pipeline under the Mediterranean to Italy.
When Bates said, in Congress, when asked if there’d be boots on the ground in Libya, he replied: “Not on MY watch.”
I said, “Well, he just signed his retirement. He just pissed off The Won.”
And gone he is - now the lapdog, Panetta, will decide. If congress doesn't step up and put a stop to this now - there will be American soldiers dying in Libya...to protect and give the country to al Queda. (I've already lost a man that was important to our family and Battle Co., there. NO MORE.)
Bastards all.
Prayers for your Grandson.
One of my good friends goes back soon.
Thankfully he wont be doing combat missions this time.
LOL - I just saw that movie again about a week ago. It never gets old.
“Will someone explain to me why we do NOT have 300 Generals bitching about Obama like we did about Bush?”
Because unlike Bush who openly accepted criticism, we have a true socialist in the oval office surrounded by minions who will gladly end careers and destroy people and their families who are foolish enough to challenge them on anything.
**** yeah!
We need to get out of Afghanistan NOW!
>>At some time, someone must have run the statistics on casualties resulting from accidental discharges vs. casualties from the bad guys.
That would seem a pretty big assumption. You know what they say about assumptions . . .
Some cops carry a clutch piece. I’m thinking our military personnel might want to give some serious thought to doing the same.
I think everyone in Afghanistan needs to have that intensive training since they are apparently surrounded by terrorists in civilian clothes and friendly uniforms.
A loaded sidearm needs to be part of the uniform of the day.
If the terrorist is a "friendly" then he's going to know who the designated protector is and take him out first. Then the rest of the work quarter is left with no protection of their own.
These are supposed to be PROFESSIONAL soldiers who are responsible to protect themselves and their fellow soldiers against all legitimate threats. Why do we treat them like elementary school children and deny them the access to self defense?
I doubt very seriously if there have been 9 casualties due to accidental discharge since the Afghan war began. OTOH we have 9 killed in one day due to deliberate discharge by a supposedly friendly terrorist. Add to that the 13 killed at Fort Hood, and I think you have a serious argument for giving our troops the right to bear arms.
For the most part, American soldiers don’t ever wear side arms. Only officers do. It’s been a pet peeve of mine for years.
Wow! I finished the yard without a ND.
Had 2 knives in my pocket too and somehow managed not to cut my **** off.
A guard force is not just one person.
The same logic would apply to any perimeter guard force, too, PM. A traitor would know their routine and perhaps even their names and stations.
When we allow potential traitors among us as a matter of policy that is the problem. If we are to continue doing so, then there must be a way to address a number of things when it comes to force security inside the FOB. On the list will be weapons accidents, and as my personal experience illustrates, it isn’t all that uncommon.
General Petraeus was shot and nearly killed by one of our own soldiers during a training incident.
You would think so, wouldn’t you?
My take is that perhaps the upper echelons of the military have become so politicized that a negligent discharge down in the ranks, especially if it results in injury, could be career-ending for commanders in the O-5 to O-8 range.
The whole thing just seems insane to me, both the Fort Hood incident and this one, if it went down as being reported here. Hell, I generally don’t go the bank unarmed.
A few pings to folks - what is your take on my take above?
LMAO! Now that’s funny right there. But in a grim way, given the context of this thread.
I dont know how we walk and chew gum at the same time!
We just had guys killing for fun and collecting fingers.
Nothing happened to the upper echelons
Then again we had Abu Graib and they wanted GWB’s head.
This is all Political, and our guys are getting killed because of it.
I have to wonder if they were killing for fun, or killing people who needed killing that we had to be nice to because of our screwy ROE. If I had more time, I’d search out the news item that made me think that might be a possibility.
But yes, there is way too much politics, way too much “nation building” among savages incapable of doing so without a few generations of re-education we are not about to impose on them.
