Via Mediaite, which has excerpts from last night’s F-bomb cavalcade. One of our commenters in Headlines watched the clip and observed that Trump is basically a leftist caricature of Republicans brought to life. Precisely — but with the caveat that something like 20 percent of the GOP wants to embrace the caricature. (That number might already be slipping.) He knows he’s too compromised on conservative principles to get traction with the base so he overcompensates with tell-it-like-it-is populist bravado aimed at framing himself as the ultimate regular-guy outsider. Calling the Chinese MFers is the logical extension of that; if he can’t address economic anxieties with a serious policy solution, at least he can do it with rhetorical empowerment. That’s why Reagan, who did have a serious Cold War strategy, didn’t have to say “Tear down this motherf***ing wall” instead.
Just to follow up on the point about leftist caricature, though, I’m intrigued by this tidbit from his trip to New Hampshire:
Even as reporters assailed him with questions this week about the presidents birth certificate, Mr. Trump sought to dispel any notion that his candidacy is a public relations gimmick. He dangled the idea that reporters would be surprised by what he announces next month, soon after his NBC television show ends for the season on May 22.
When the show is over, I will be free to announce, he said. I think you will be surprised at a number of things, but I think you will be surprised at what my announcement is.
He’s not dumb, so he surely realizes by now that he has no shot at winning. As much as voters may enjoy this sort of “f*** the world” pandering on the stump, they’re not going to entrust the nuclear arsenal to a guy prone to rhetoric like this. Remember how Howard Dean, another man of righteous rage, was ahead in the polls until the primaries began and he suddenly realized that he was a bit too “much” for most Democrats? Trump will experience that too. So he’s almost certainly not going to run, in which case, what will the “surprising” announcement be? If he walked out and admitted that this has all been a goof aimed at seeing just how far he could get in the GOP polls using lowest-common-denominator populist rhetoric, it’d be one of the great pranks of all time. Liberals would go from loathing him to building statues of him in an instant. I know he’s not going to say that — realistically, he’ll give some excuse about being “better able to influence the process on the outside” or whatever — but still. It’d be epic. Content warning for what follows, if you please.

TRUMP is going to announce his endorsement for PALIN's candidacy!
The question that needs to be asked is why is Trump the only candidate with the sac to say what needs to be said... while the rest of the neutered GOP candidates apparently have their wives carry their bag?
A big fat tariff law ( Smoot Hawley) is generally considered the precipitative act that turned a local recession into a worldwide, global depression back in the 30’s
Way to go Trump
The man is as left as they come, ever hear any conservative talk like that.
Love ‘em or hate ‘em he’s saying what needs to be said. Now if we only can get the government to do what needs to be done.
Just enjoy the show...I have those same choice words for Obama but he used them for China.
Could be but Hillary would have been better off planting someone more competent. Thus far it’s obama 1, trump 0, birthers -1.
I for one, can’t wait to see the crop of lifetime spineless politicians the GOP will produce. I can barely contain myself. It’s going ot be so cool to hear them say nothing they mean! Yeah!
That maybe but if we had exported our manufacturing plants to Germany, Japan and China we would have lost WW II. Thank you Smoot Hawley.
This audience must be pretty dumb. He cant tax China, he can only tax the products we buy from them, and it's possible that Trade Rules dont even allow that(not even mentioned by the con-man.).
Maybe Trump will threaten the Saudis with raising the tax we pay on their oil 25%, OOOPPS, Democrats already thought of that.
Video:Trump to China: Listen, you motherf***ers, were going to tax you 25 percent
Thanks for the laugh S+F, ask Trump when his investigators are going to show us Obama's Kenyan BC they found in Hawaai as he hinted in those interviews.
Only generally considered that by people who don't understand the GD and desire to use Smoot-Hawley as a scare tactic. Here is a great paper on the GD everyone interested in that period could benefit from. A key paragraph:
The great depression and its offspring, the New Deal, could both have been avoided if the Federal Reserve had performed the task assigned to it. All the Federal Reserve had to do to avoid the Depression and the subversion of the American constitutional order was to purchase $1 billion in government securities during the 10-month period from December 1929 to October 1930. The result would have been an increase, instead of decrease, in high-powered money, and the banking crisis that began in the autumn of 1930 would not have occurred.
The Fed's "Depression" and the Birth of the New Deal
No mention of Smoot-Hawley in that article, just discussion of Fed policies which shrunk the money supply and the New Deal.
Many people are worried that Trump's activities will result in real, objective look at the one-sided trade relationship with China.
Imports during 1929 were only 4.2% of the United States' GNP and exports were only 5.0%. Monetarists such as Milton Friedman who emphasize the central role of the money supply in causing the depression, downplay the Smoot-Hawley's effect on the entire U.S. economy.[19]
Tariffs against China are a good idea, I am not sure about 25% but maybe 10% would be good. We are in a trade war already, we haven't fought back yet. Trump is right about this.
No matter how sophisticated we may think we are, Donald Trump dropping 'F-bombs' in a public speech is a turn-off to most people. You don't have to be a sensitive evangelical to feel uncomfortable and a bit embarrassed that he is posing as a 'conservative Republican' while doing this. I expect Trump will be flaming out soon. However, if Trump continues to be an animated characterization of a rich, crass Republican that issues fierce (but empty) threats to other nation's leaders, his endorsement of Sarah Palin might do her more harm than good. I'm not a conspiracy fan but that could be his intent. Who knows?
The left is on the ropes and scared poopless of Palin who is the antithesis of leftist ideology, which is why she is hated by the left. Her popularity and natural charisma are why the attacks on Palin never stop, even to attempting to claim her special needs child is not her own. The GOP elitists want a nice, safe yawner like Romney to politely lose to Obama and retain the Beltway status quo. Sarah Palin threatens all that so she is attacked by the left and, to some extent, the 'right'. Trump alieniating voters with his crassness and bully-boy attitude dropping out and endorsing Palin would give the left a brush to smear Palin with, contending that she is 'just like Trump'; a boorish bully, blah, blah, blah. Palin for her part, couldn't flat-out reject Trump's endorsement but would be forced to qualify her acceptance and distance herself from his rantings. A problem she doesn't need. So, I would just as well Donald Trump bow out (soon) and not endorse anyone. It's been fun - but we have to get serious about the 2012 election and Trump is just going to get in the way.
Thanks for setting the record straight on Smoot Hawley. As for the 25% Trump should not have said on China but on the American companies who export their manufacturing and jobs then turn around and import the product to this country. In addition to that 25%, they should be required to pay the employee and employer share of social security. Then there would be sufficient SS for Americans.
Here are some charts showing data from the GD. The first and fourth show GDP and the Money Supply. Pretty amazing.

Hollywood at it’s best.
Until the China thing is resolved, you WILL NEVER reverse the “parasite/producer ratio”. Yes, we are doomed.
Trump is a pompous, arrogant and braggadocios jackass.
If Trump somehow can swagger and cuss his way to the nomination or a 3rd party adventure, he’ll come out on the losing end.
