Lately, there have been duelling stories in the entertainment press about the future of Atlas Shrugged. With disappointing box office returns, the producers have been asked if they will go ahead and complete the franchise and in one interview were being told there will be no trilogy and in another were being told that there will. To clear the air, I reached out via email and Atlas producers John Aglialoro and Harmon Kaslow were both good enough to respond with exclusive quotes that should help to calm fears of Atlas fans everywhere.
Most surprising, though, was the revelation CNN, CNBC, and MSNBC are refusing to broadcast 15-second Atlas spots. Whats that about?
Im going to get a picture of Roger Ebert and Peter Travers and the rest of them so I can wake up in the morning and be reminded what were up against, Aglialoro wrote in an email. Theyre revitalizing me with their outrageousness. Aglialoro went on to state he had been misunderstood when he said the critical drubbing the film took influenced him to abandon the second and third films in the Atlas Shrugged franchise. He confirmed that he has no intention to go on strike.
That should come as very good news to the many, many people who obviously enjoyed the film and found it to be something special. Personally, Ive never seen such polarized reviews before. The critics savaged it and yet everyone who sent a revew into us loved it. The most interesting thing Ive noticed is that no one was on-the-fence about the film. No one said, Yeah, it was okay. People either passionately embraced Part 1 or passionately didnt. You dont see a lot of movies like that. So, for those of you who loved it
Make no mistake, we want to make...

But.., but..., why? All the professional reviewers told us how bad it was...not to waste our time seeing it. Why, oh why, would they refuse to take the producers money to run ads on their cash-strapped, low ratings networks? They did warn us that really cool people won't watch it.(sarcasm)
Anything that isn’t 100% part of “group thought” and “group speak” is to be assailed or ignored.
MSM refusing to air ads for a movie is nothing.
Just wait until the networks refuse to air conservative ads for the 2012 election.
I would not have a clue if it is offered in my area; it must be two years since I’ve stopped on the movies page to see what’s playing where.
And then the network "news" fails to cover that story.
Yet Satanists really like her.
Maybe it would be a good thing if all the Randians went off into the desert.
Nice
Me too.
The heart wants what the heart wants. I have not obtained a copy yet because the difference between a want and a need is apparent to me.
If this message could be instilled into my wife things would be better for me.
To say Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged is not a good as Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World is kind of like saying C.S. Lewis’ Narnia is not as good as J.R.R. Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings; that Mickey Mantle wasn’t as good as Babe Ruth; or, that Farah Fawcett was not as beautiful as Whitney Houston. It’s not bad to win the silver medal. But, since we’re really talking about the movie adaptation of Atlas Shrugged, a better comparison would be Part 1 to the movies 1984 and Brazil.
BTW My own favorite writer in the genre of dystopian future is Robert Heinlein.
Atlas Shrugged was in major cities, now it is in my state in the chain Flagship theaters-which was pretty quick considering how long I have had to wait for smaller studio films and then have to frequent a small independent theater to see them.
How about Battlefield Earth? How does Atlas Shrugged stack up against that?

Ah yes, he was a friend of Hubbard's.
Shocker there.
IYKWIM.
This is what happened with Mel Gibson’s passion movie.
It is the left stomping around in order to “jam” opposing views.

So true, but it appears to this casual observer that at least one head is having trouble sorting out whether the author of this particular heart's want had the initials PKD or AEN.
Inquiring minds, as usual.
I started to read L. Ron Hubbard’s Battlefield Earth and several times tried to watch the movie (which I think was produced by John Travolta), but in no attempt was I able to complete the task. The movie is considered one of the worst big budget movies of all time.

Darwinian Conservatism by Larry Arnhart
Ayn Rand on Human Evolution
The Tea Party people are said to often quote the ideology of Rand- which is pretty basic: "live up to your full potential, care only about yourself, succeed, work hard, don't let anyone take what's rightfully yours". This was a perfect environment in which to open this film...what is they say on the Left: "why let a good crisis go to waste?"
However, the Left is afraid of the societal implications which could be wide reaching on bringing Rand to the attention of those who may not have read her for whatever reason or may look more closely and identify with this film considering the political and social environment we find facing us today especially under this Administration of "change", Madison, Wis. and talking pts. on "class warfare".
The Left consider this a dangerous film and hoped it would not be made. The Left, so self-defined academics who look down on Palin, Bush, the Tea Party quick to grade the intellect of the aforementioned as F--are afraid a film can influence the 'stupid masses'. Of course they were all kissy-face with the Michael Moore biased selectivity in manufacturing his documentaries.
Bill Ayer [IL] is also presently sweeping the country to small university teaching colleges [in the Foothills of ME, for example] you may have never heard of, to teach his own ideology in preparing putty-brained young teachers who will teach our kids or our grand kids. Soros holds a meeting up in the Balsams' Resort-about as isolated as you can get up in the Notch-rugged Mt's of NH/ME. If anyone attempted to do a "faction" film on the Life of George Soros.....
Moore then goes onto MSNBC's Maddow and Declares Class Warfare against the rich. MSNBC has no problem with that.
Oprah hyped Director [Ace Ventura] Tom Shadyac's "I Am" - the guy who sold off all his stuff and moved into a trailer after an accident. Then he made a documentary about CEO's and writers. Shadyac is described as looking like Jesus. His comedic demeanor off set draws in the audience; but Noam Chomsky and Desmond Tutu are in his film, so not funny is the intent. All welcomed by the Left.
Rand is not "a cult" for the majority who will see the film; for we go into this knowing full well who we are [which you have already decided who we are intellectually]- our conservative values, the depth of our own spiritual base, therefore; have the right to debunk or take away from it new "food for thought".
But you certainly have your freedom/right to disagree with Rand or the making of the film, perhaps giving us a little more in depth reasoning on why you take the stand you do instead of .."it would be a good thing if all the Randians went off into the desert".
