BENGHAZI, Libya - A NATO airstrike in the besieged rebel-held city of Misrata mistakenly killed 12 Libyan rebels, an official with the transitional government confirmed Thursday, while new fighting was reported on Libya's western border with Tunisia.

The 'regrettable' accident, at least the third in five weeks, leaves 12 fighters dead in the besieged city.

The strike on Wednesday was at least the third in which rebels were killed since NATO fighter jets began pounding forces loyal to Moammar Gadhafi more than five weeks ago in a mission to protect Libyan civilians.

Well, I've been to one world fair, a picnic, and a rodeo, but I ain't never seen me no flyin' aerial quagmire before.

I think we ought to call a halt to this EU/UN/NATO donkey show before some coalition jets accidentally smart bomb a playground full of Libyan school children thinking it's one of Khadafy's training bases, or Viagra® depots or something.

Then we'd probably have to warm up the teleprompters out and witness Obama apologizing on world-wide TV.

Were they able to recyle the bomb?

Well, they could send in special ops teams with combat air controllers to liaise with the rebels and designate targets and call in the planes from the front lines. It worked in Afghanistan.

But... dear-oh-dear, that would be “boots on the ground”.

Can’t have that, can we?

Why would anyone think that would work in an urban environment?

What specifically would these special-ops commandos 'lase' for the coalition jets to bomb? Just whatever random artillery pieces and GRAD rocket trucks they happen to come across while sneaking around the city of Tripoli dressed up like Bedouin tribesmen toting around their laser targeting equipment? They'd be a self-sufficient force capable of doing this for how long exactly? Would they need to rent an apartment in downtown Tripoli to accomplish this? Maybe get cover jobs at fish markets and call in air strikes in their off-hours after work?

I don't think that the environment of a city of over one million people under Khadafy's control is comparable to the mountains of Afghanistan where we targeted cave complexes for air strikes.

Nice try though, I guess.

12 more radical islamists killed — is there a down side here? Were any of them al Qaeda? Can we use bigger bombs to up the numbers and maybe take out both sides to keep it balanced so they can keep killing each other?

Meanwhile our new best frenz in Egypt are butchering Christians but Obama could give a rat sass about that. And the Syrians are slaughtering civies but they are pals with Obama’s Iranian mullahs so that gets no more than a quick rebuke wedged in between golf and Oprah.

Its like the USA has turned into a wholly owned subsidiary of the UN.

This wasn’t US military. US military isn’t this sloppy. And US military is the ONLY one experienced fighting is this type of cluster #### environment.

That said, I’m GLAD obastard is so incompetent that we aren’t more actively participating. Fighting FOR Al Qeada, even against a monster like Qadaffi? Pass, please!

Al Qaeda guys an one side, Khadafy guys on the other. I think that when either ends up dead it is good. Keeping the conflict going and keeping them killing each other as long as possible should be our strategy. Occasionally taking out high value rebels when the opportunity presents itself seems like a good thing to me. I wish we were smart enough for me to believe we were actually be doing that.
