Ha! This reminds me of when I was in high school - kids were absolutely mindless in selecting the “chocolate” milk with their lunches, but the chocolate milk was really nasty crap. Sure it was brown, but didn’t taste even remotely of chocolate - it really was gritty brown sugar milk. No friggin’ thanks. I used to get the regular white colored milk, but because it didn’t turn over nearly as often, about 3-4 times a year I got curdled milk. I remember one time it happened after a large gulp of chunky milk - just flung that crap across the floor. BS - sheeple - and their brown sugar milk.

“But some parents won’t send their kids any food.” And that’s true. And I don’t have an answer for that.

Where did we ever get the idea that we're responsible for other parent's bad behavior, neglect or stupidity?

The food was crap too. At least they had flat bread ham & cheese and turkey & cheese regular old sandwiches as some last ditch, niche option. Octogan shaped mexican pizza, crap dogs in some undercooked bun coffin, greasy ass tots, it really was gross. I guess it was far enough back that food hype wasn’t in, but you couldn’t deny how regular food left you feeling compared to the crap, especially if you took any kind of sports that required you to bounce, run, or knock around with your lunch choices in your gut.

“Racist Mudda******!”

Yep, this sounds racist to me. White milk okay but chocolate milk banned. I don’t know, but maybe Holder will be on the case shortly.

I don’t know, it probably goes back to the whole Great Society mess. But I’m guessing. I assume you are talking about “we” as the government. Some societies have taken care of each other probably from the beginning (most probably had some relationship to each other) and Christians are told to take care of others, so maybe that’s where it comes from. But, as I said, I can’t answer that question with authority. Perhaps your question was simply rhetorical.

It was.... but "we" are the government.... or at least we used to be.

I do believe in Christian charity...but you can only do so much. At some point, people have to step up to the plate and be responsible. If you keep holding them up without holding the individual responsible... it cripples them and drains the charitable spirit of others..

I’m not disagreeing with you, if you read my original post I was addressing what people would say if you tried to do away with the school lunch program. You can try but I think you will not be successful.

I think the best solution would be to let kids and their parents choose whether to bring or buy a lunch. If a child forgets their lunch once give them a free sandwich but if a kid frequently “forgets” their lunch the school should notify the authorities about a possible child abuse case. That was the policy when I was going to school and it seemed to work.

What’s wrong with asking a child to pack his/her own lunch? I started packing my lunch when I was in 1st grade. As for the kids forgetting to pack their lunch or being irresponsible I disagree. The ONLY time I ever forgot my lunch the free sandwich the school gave me was so disgusting I couldn’t even eat it. Fortunately, the other kids took pity on me and gave me their food. I’d say I learned a great deal about personal responsibility that day. I also learned that the only free lunches in life are the ones not worth having.

Kids can’t share food now because of food allergies. I assure you, there is an answer to everything you can come up with. But go ahead and try to change the policy, I’m all for it.

I agree, of course then you will have to listen to, “But some parents won’t send their kids any food.” And that’s true. And I don’t have an answer for that

I do. If parents choose not to provide a snak it is family business. If the children are obviously neglected and hungry they need to be removed from parental custody, placed in orphanage training schools where they will learn how to function in society in productive ways and learn a trade.
