Lara Logan of CBS Talks About Her Assault in Egypt
The New York Times ^ | Thursday, April 28, 2011 | Brian Stelter

...Tahrir Square when she was sexually assaulted by a mob on the night that Hosni Mubarak’s government fell in Cairo.

Ms. Logan, a CBS News correspondent, was in the square preparing a report for “60 Minutes” on Feb. 11 when the celebratory mood suddenly turned threatening. She was ripped away from her producer and bodyguard by a group of men who tore at her clothes and groped and beat her body. “For an extended period of time, they raped me with their hands,” Ms. Logan said in an interview with The New York Times. She estimated that the attack lasted for about 40 minutes and involved 200 to 300 men.

Ms. Logan, who returned to work this month, is expected to speak at length about the assault on “60 Minutes” on Sunday night.

As the cameraman, Richard Butler, was swapping out a battery, Egyptian colleagues who were accompanying the camera crew heard men nearby talking about wanting to take Ms. Logan’s pants off. She said: “Our local people with us said, ‘We’ve gotta get out of here.’ That was literally the moment the mob set on me.”

SNIP

She declined to go into more detail about the assault but said: “What really struck me was how merciless they were. They really enjoyed my pain and suffering. It incited them to more violence.”

After being rescued by a group of civilians and Egyptian soldiers, she was swiftly flown back to the United States. “She was quite traumatized, as you can imagine, for a period of time,” Mr. Fager said. Ms. Logan said she decided almost immediately that she would speak out about sexual violence both on behalf of other journalists and on behalf of “millions of voiceless women who are subjected to attacks like this and worse.”

“No sympathy for an arrogant and terminally dumb woman who thought her CBS pass was an important credential.”

WOW! You should be ashamed of yourself...... Why? Newbie.

Interesting the words Muslim or Islam don’t appear in the story. She talks like any group of men may just turn into a raping machine at any time.

They’re savage animals. Eventually we’ll have no other choice but to put them down accordingly - en masse. It’ll be us or them.

Regardless of her arrogance and stupidity, no one should have to endure such abuse. I'm pretty sure that you didn't mean that she deserved it, but that is the way the statement will be spun by FR's detractors.

You don’t send a gorgeous woman like Lara Logan to report on a riot. You send someone that looks like Andrea Michell. No self respecting rapist would get near anyone as repulsive as Michell.

Gee, let’s see...maybe gloating about a woman being raped and /or abused sexually by 200 madman is not cool?

Okay, I was just about to rip you a new one, until I read this:

“Before the assault, Ms. Logan said, she did not know about the levels of harassment and abuse that women in Egypt and other countries regularly experienced. “I would have paid more attention to it if I had had any sense of it,” she said”

I'm sorry but this really p*sses me off. How can a foreign reporter not know the abuse that those women endure?

I think it was more like she didn't care until it happened to her.

What a surprise, the arab culture is not respectful of women.

Perhaps it was at a Moslem-Egyptian Day celebration.

Maybe she only hangs out in Western hotels and truly wasn’t around the bad elements.

People need to cut her slack over this experience. She went through a horrific thing.

From grade school through J-school, she's been propagandized to believe that ABCNNBCBS are the source of all news; since coverage of anything embarrassing to Islam is severely limited from those sources, she never heard about it.

Never underestimate the ignorance of liberals - yes, even media types.

For the record though, many comments in this thread are absolutely disgusting.

The hatred on display is almost islamic in character...

Liberal jourbilists, like all elitist liberals, are not guided by facts, but upon prejudiced feelings. They cannot tolerate the cognitive dissonance experienced when squarely facing reality, so they feel obliged to block out from their consciousness as well as their reporting any negative views which reality presents when it concerns their favored social groups. (My posts #52 and #53 were intended to draw parallels to pathologies exhibited by certain favored American social groups which are also blocked out by liberal elites.)

On September 11, 2001 the liberal elites added the Islamic world to their list of favored social groups. It is no wonder that a liberal elitist jourbilist would be oblivious to Islamic misogyny. These Islamic bon sauvages are not white, Christian conservatives, so how could they be anything but wonderful?

Ya, it could have, and has happened happened in Central Park or in any city in the US too.

Over the years millions of American women traveled to Egypt as tourists and some even on business. I know a woman who went in and out of Egypt regularly on business, and never had a problem or a complaint.

This woman from CBS walked into a situation of civil unrest where any pretense of authority had broken down and the animals in that situation took advantage. She was with a crew and had a security detail. That didn't make a difference when there was a mob operating with a mob mentality.

That is what anarchy looks like

I feel bad for her... and for Egypt. It was once a place that at lest had a hope of joining the 21st century, but I fear that the animal mob, fired up by their Friday "prayers" in the Mosques are intent on taking it back to the barbarism of the 7th century.

I think that some conservatives may be angry at the left’s refusal to accept reality. Lara Logan is a leftist, and in no way *deserved* her brutal mistreatment at the hands of “human” garbage, but it’s maddening to contemplate that most other one-world socialists will learn nothing from this. Bob
