CONCORD, N.H. – Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky, opened a breakfast speech here Thursday at the Merrimack County Republican Committee with a new demand for proof – not of President Obama’s citizenship, but of Donald Trump’s Republican credentials.

“I’ve come to New Hampshire today because I’m very concerned,” Mr. Paul said. “I want to see the original long-form certificate of Donald Trump’s Republican registration.”

Sure, Paul is there protecting his father's flank, but he does have a point. Trump isn't much more Republican than Michael Bloomberg.

If Rand had the balls to go after Obama the way Donald has, then he'd have the right to criticize.

As it is, he's just jealous of all the press The Donald is getting.

Trump is certainly no conservative savior.

Sure he is, in his own mind. I’ve never seen anyone be so egotistical as Trump was yesterday.

Trump is a business guy and could care less about playing ball with R. Paul. That’s part of what I like about him. Haven’t the Republicans figured out that the people are exhausted with the same ole, same ole?

Did he even mention all the other people who did all the heavy lifting for years before he decided eligibility was an issue a few weeks ago?

I’d be surprised if Trump were even registered to vote, or voted on a regular basis, or gave to any candidate for office other than offices instrumental to his real estate wheeling and dealing.

Why should he bother, when a well-placed donation will get him what he wants? Voting's a waste of time for a billionaire who can access any politician he wants.

No, I don’t think so, and I thought most birthers who’ve spent the last three years going after this would be at least a little upset.

I don't believe that I've ever heard Trump claim to be a Republican.

Just to be fair, I'd like to see Rand Paul's Star Fleet Academy Diploma.

The Donald is a New York real estate shark. He has no conservative standing of any kind.

But he is doing the job the RINO establishment refuses to do.

I’d like to see his father’s Republican registration. He’s more in line with Code Pink on foreign policy.

but he does have a point.

Nobody has "Republican Paper". There is nothing except a mailing list.

Rand Paul has done more for the Tea Party than Trump could even dream about. I don’t understand the hostility towards him. He is the enemy of the Rinos and doesn’t back down when pressured by them. Not saying I want him for President, but please, putting him behind Trump? I don’t get it.

There may be no higher calling in the pursuit of a 2012 victory than to get Donald Trump to STFU.

Rand’s something of a strict constitutionalist, and not everybody thinks that’s a good thing, apparently.
