Was that prayer a “minor” exorcism?
Funny story - a 2-star general stopped in the office while I was eating and watching. 2-star genreals do not frequently just casually pop in here.
He jokingly said, "OK, I'm just stopping by to see who's working during lunch."
I mock-sheepishly said, "Errr...I'm watching the royal wedding."
He came over to my computer asking "Has Kate arrived yet?" and watched with me for a few minutes as Kate was being driven to Westminster Abbey.
LOL
Having grown up there ....for the first time in a long long time , I actually feel there IS hope for England .
Again....
I pray so
God save the Queen !
was the queen able to get off the ‘throne’ long enough to attend the festivities????
7 September 1940
In the run up to 7 September, the night the Blitz began, the Luftwaffe had targeted RAF airfields and radar stations for destruction in preparation for the German invasion of the island. When these plans were put on hold, Hitler turned his attention to destroying London. At around 4pm, 348 German bombers escorted by 617 fighters blasted London. Two hours later, using the fires set by the first assault as a guide, a second group of raiders attacked the capital and carried on bombing until 4:30am the following morning. The attack started in the East End before moving to central London leaving more than 430 dead and more than 1600 people badly injured.
15 November 1940
The Luftwaffe returned to London and marked the full moon with the biggest raid of the month. Almost every borough was hit using a new bomb that Londoners nicknamed Satan, which used delayed action. The National Portrait Gallery was hit, as was Westminster Abbey and Euston Station. The previous night, Coventry was also hit in a raid that lasted more than 10 hours and left much of the city devastated.
Is there a more recent thread post wedding? I watched it live and am verklempt. Want to “talk” to someone....
Why should any CONSERVATIVE AMERICAN care about a wedding of ROYALs?? Wake me when its over!!!! I’m not into the MONARCH THING. We do have a KING here — King Zero of KENYA!! ;-)
In the wee hours of the morning after all is put away, the land is quiet, the Queen is asleep in Buckingham Palace and the Royal scepter has been polished, will we hear the young Duke report: “It’s good to be King!”
Now that the big day is over, just a few comments:
The wedding—dare I say, BORING? Same church, same carriages, same horses, same routine, etc. Can’t think of any spontaneous gestures or memorable moments. Maybe it’s because they have already lived together for 8 years and are just going through the motions and pretending that they are starting their life together. Also, it was too staged and robotic. Every movement was planned out ahead of time. When everyone is afraid of putting a wrong foot forward it makes for dull TV.
The bride—She’s ordinary. She doesn’t have Diana’s charisma or sparkle. Go to any college campus in America and you will find 100 girls like Kate. Seriously, does this girl deserve all of this attention?
The dress— Although it’s a beautiful dress, it’s Grace Kelly’s dress. Been there, done that. I was disappointed. I find it odd that this “modern fashion icon” chose another woman’s dress from 50 years ago! I was hoping that she would have chosen something from THIS century, not last.
The tiara—Of all of the queen’s tiaras from her vast collection I can’t believe she gave her this chintzy one. Small diamonds, no sparkle. Barely there. The earrings took all of the attention. She should have worn studs so that they wouldn’t clash with the tiara. And someone needs to tell Kate she needs a grown-up hairstyle—you’re not a school girl anymore. She should have worn her hair up for such a regal occasion, especially with a dress with a high collar.
William—I’m not crazy about a man that wears TOMATO red. Blue is his color, like his mother’s.
The kiss—No passion. It was so dull that the crowd asked for another. And that one was dull, too! Now I know royals are supposed to be stiff and emotionless, but give me a break. Most people would understand if you showed some feeling when you kissed on your wedding day.
The music—Awful. Charles and Diana’s music was fabulous. Diana’s walk down the aisle was dramatic because of the music. Kate’s music for walking down the aisle was just WRONG! It sounded like a movie soundtrack. The little boys’ vocals were irritating and distracted from the bride. And all of the other hymns were forgettable.
Prince Edward—Why was he wearing a military uniform? IIRC he abruptly quit shortly after joining to take up a career in the theatre.
