When my sister left the UMC, the pastor asked her why she was leaving. She replied, "Because I became a Christian." Surprisingly, the pastor's response was, "Oh, well, that makes sense."

My wife and I go to a UMC, but I don’t take them seriously. They’re like any other “modern” church in that they’re more in to marketing and less in to “offending” people who should be offended.

The UMC refuses to take a solid, Biblically based stand against abortion and homosexuality, both of which are offensive to God. But my pastor said he’d rather not get “controversial” because 1) it might offend some people, and 2) members of the congregation who are homosexual or who might have had abortions would leave.

They can and do have STRONG stands against gambling . . . now there’s something to confront their congregations with, rather than not slaughtering an unborn child or engaging in unrepentant homosexual behavior. Gambling. Boy, am I impressed! It’s more “let me entertain you” rather than “let me tell you what God thinks about these abominations!”

God’s 11th commandment: Thou shalt not offend your congregation by preaching about the previous 10 commandments!

We left the UMC about 10 years ago. We couldn’t stand homosexual agenda and the indoctrination of our kids in the name of “tolerance”. The UMC is not Christian.

So are they going to also say that Pedophilia is a gift as well?

“The overwhelming scientific evidence is that people are born with their sexual orientation, that it is not a choice,” the church contends. “Fully accepting one’s sexual orientation and identity is key to leading a normal and healthy life.

Is it a mistake that their acronym is “CUM-Church?” It almost leaves little doubt. These pathetic “church” parodies are constantly poking ridicule at the things of God through snide, obscene, sexually suggestive subtleties. The large sodomite “church” in Dallas has a “bible study” they call “between the covers.” They are an open affront to God.

Please forgive me for posting this. I just saw this via HotAir link to Zombie.

We really have to not only pray for them, but talk to them... regardless of the outcome. They’re screaming for help and don’t even know it.

Love the sinner, hate the sin.

They’re being rebellious towards their father. But in order to hate something, you had to have once loved it.

OT: Father Pfleger has finally been suspended re: Chicago.
More details after I read the Archdiocese statement.

What an indictment against that church and pastor.

Some people are going to be in for a rude awakening come Judgment Day.

Galatians 6:7-8 “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”

I don’t think John and Charles Wesley had this in mind for their church organization.

There is only one way that "being born gay" (if this is indeed congenital) could be considered "a gift from God": if that gift is a Cross -- unnatural feelings that they are supposed to carry, die to, and with God's help transcend.

We are all born into a world with our own Crosses, a tendency toward certain kinds of sins (errors) whether it be a genetic disposition toward anger or alcoholism, an abusive parent, or a physical disability etc. But human beings were also born to grow, not just physically and mentally, but also spiritually. We weren't meant to be branded, categorized and to stay the same -- we are meant for growth. People who were born without legs doesn't mean that they were never meant to walk. Someone born blind wasn't meant to stay blind and never see, they were meant to develop a different kind of sight. We are meant to grow and cast aside our disabilities and embrace what struggling with those disabilities teach us.

This is the error in this church's thinking -- embrace the sinner yes, but don't celebrate the sin or act like its natural! Would they do the same for a murderer or a thief? Celebrate "murdering" or "thieving"? No! Even though they must care for the souls of people who do those acts. Love the sinner, hate the sin that's holding these people hostage -- then you can help them free themselves. Celebrating the sin is just keeping them where they are, even if they want to grow past it!

“Holding people responsible for matters in which they have no control is irrational and immoral,” the church declares. “We believe that both those within and without the Church are hungry for dialogue about homosexuality that reflects compassion and humility rather than intolerance and strife.”

I guess they must think the same way about pedophiles, too, right? Fair is fair. Kleptomaniacs are welcome (just don't ask them to pass the offering plate). Oh, and, serial killers should be welcomed as well - God made them that way, after all...
