The Oklahoma Senate on Wednesday approved a bill that would create criminal penalties for undocumented immigrants who work in Oklahoma and those who smuggle them into the state.
It would also give police officers more authority to question citizenship status of suspects.
The bill, approved by a 37-8 vote, originated in the Oklahoma House and underwent revisions in the Senate. The two chambers must reconcile differences in the bill before it can go to Governor Mary Fallin. Senators faced a deadline on Thursday to pass bills that originate in the House.
Oklahoma is one of several states -- including Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, South Carolina and Utah -- where Republicans are pushing immigration measures reminiscent of the one that became law in Arizona a year ago. The Arizona law required police to investigate the immigration status of anyone they detained and suspected of being in the country illegally.
Under the Oklahoma measure, local police officers trained through a federal program would be authorized to ask about immigration status.
The bill would also make it a misdemeanor for undocumented immigrants to work, apply for work or solicit work in a public place. Convictions could result in up to a year in jail and/or a $500 fine.

I talked to two men last fall in Tulsa at the gun show. They told me a story about the illegals. A man had a construction company, he was doing great, building houses etc. but he could do better if he hired Mexicans to do the work. All was well for awhile until one of the Mexicans opened his own business, hired the illegals himself and put the original contractor out of business, he couldn’t compete with them.
I was told that every night in a certain part of Tulsa, the helicopters are hovering over the neighborhood chasing down the criminals (who are mostly Mexicans)....I guess I am a racist and prejudiced, huh?
They already did it once. Here in Tulsa the messycan community evaporated overnight. But then they realized Tulsa cops aren't going to enforce squat if it means they have to leave dunkin donuts. Now the crimigrants are back more than before.
Nobody's going to enforce it.

I live in Texas right now.
I notice all the time when I am in just about any store - a walk down any aisle and you seldom hear any English spoken.
I also notice when driving a few streets over from my house, in the evening and on the weekend, there are so many cars parked on the street, I can barely drive down it. (During work hours, they are scarce.) A good portion of those houses have 2 and 3 families living in them.
While I love many things about Texas, as soon my daughter graduates next year, we are moving back to OK. It is my home.
Should be interesting. At least half of the OKC city road repair crews are mex’s, and that’s being conservative. Should be real easy to tell on enforcement. If the City is employing all of these illegals I’m just not going to hold my breath that they’re going to tell them to go away. But it will be confirmation that any law that’s passed isn’t worth the toilet paper it’s written on.

Do you know which part of Tulsa? I’m thinking of moving there, and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere near that neighborhood.
