"The U.S. government has "helped" no group more than it has "helped" the American Indians. It stuns me when President Obama appears before Indian groups and says things like, "Few have been ignored by Washington for as long as Native Americans."
Ignored? Are you kidding me? They should be so lucky. The government has made most Indian tribes wards of the state. Government manages their land, provides their health care, and pays for housing and child care. Twenty different departments and agencies have special "native American" programs. The result? Indians have the highest poverty rate, nearly 25 percent, and the lowest life expectancy of any group in America. Sixty-six percent are born to single mothers.
Nevertheless, Indian activists want more government "help."
It is intuitive to assume that, when people struggle, government "help" is the answer. The opposite is true. American groups who are helped the most, do the worst...."

If DemocRats are for poor people, then that means they NEED poor people to stay in power. That means that they DO NOT want poor people to be anything but poor.
Comments—not intended to be quoted:
That applies to the population of Americans in general.
Thank feminists in government for both situations.
And it is wholly intentional. Democrats were the party of slavery in Civil War times, and they still are. Slavery just goes by the name “government assistance” now...
Wherever there is a potential voting block, they want to create an attitude of dependency in order to "buy" votes, thereby assuring the extension of their own power.
Socialist policies will not create wealth for the country. Such policies create dependents. Hear Churchill:
"I do not believe in the power of the State to plan and enforce. No matter how numerous are the committees they set up or the ever-growing hordes of officials they employ or the severity of the punishments they inflict or threaten, they can't approach the high level of internal economic production achieved under free enterprise. Personal initiative, competitive selection, and profit motive corrected by failure and the infinite processes of good housekeeping and personal ingenuity, these constitute the life of a free society. It is this vital creative impulse that I deeply fear the doctrines and policies of the socialist government has destroyed. Nothing that they can plan and order and rush around enforcing will take its place. They have broken the main spring and until we get a new one, the watch will not go. Set the people free. Get out of the way and let them make the best of themselves. I am sure that this policy of equalizing misery and organizing society--instead of allowing diligence, self-interest and ingenuity to produce abundance--has only to be prolonged to kill this British Island stone dead."
As the so-called "progressives" (who are, in fact, regressive in their policies) have taken over the reins of government in America, their efforts at "planning" and "organizing" and "enforcing" are about to produce in America the same result Churchill predicted in 1945 for his nation, because they are based on a counterfeit idea.
The real formula for liberty, opportunity, prosperity and wealth creation can be found in the writings of that great moral philosopher, Adam Smith, and in the speeches of Jefferson, Adams, Washington, Madison, and the other Founders of America--not in Mao, Marx, Lenin and Keynes.
BUMP for John Stossel’s OUTSTANDING work on this one and the terrific posts from FReepers!
