No one was injured Tuesday afternoon after an airplane went off the runway at Midway Airport.
Southwest Flight 1919 was in Chicago from Denver when it slid off the runway and got stuck in the mud.

Looks like Gate 17 it is!!!
Same here, I was thinking it was a Goonie bird.
I have about 400 - 500 take-offs or landings at Midway as a SW passenger.
Had a tire blow on one landing, that is the only event so far. The one that blew out to the street was in heavy winter conditions as I recall.
Give me Midway any day over O’Hara and the chain of nightmares for that airport and their carriers.
Aircraft turned left at the end of Rwy 13C.
The runway the pilot was landing on Rwy 13C, is equipped with Engineered Material Arrestor Systems (EMAS). If you look closely at the picture you can see this system off the right wing of the aircraft. It looks like a short stack of squared material. It is designed to stop an aircraft that goes off the end of the runway. Go to youtube and search on EMAS for video on how the system works.
