Donald Trump's plan to lower $4-a-gallon gas prices

Donald Trump, sounding increasingly like a serious presidential candidate, suggests OPEC and a lack of drilling are the causes of high gas prices. He has a multipoint plan.

By Peter Grier, Staff writer / April 25, 2011

Believe it or not, Donald Trump is sounding more and more like somebody who might actually run for president. As opposed to someone who is just talking up running for president as a means to boost ratings for “Celebrity Apprentice.”

In a Fox News interview a few days ago he noted that “a lot of people would be very upset if I didn’t run.” Plus, he keeps talking about how he’ll announce his intentions after “Celebrity Apprentice” ends its season, because if he said anything earlier he’d have to put the show in a blind trust, or something like that. This implies that he is going to run, because if he isn’t, he could say so anytime he wants.

I’m not a huge fan of Trump (although the entertainment factor is unlimited) but, he’s the only guy I’ve seen who will go toe to toe with Obama. Who else, I dont see any brass cojones isthe rest of the field, except Backman and Palin (kinda ironic).

Bingo!

I want to see him in the debates—lets see him and what he says then—Not speculation. Might be he will be a nut and chucked out—or maybe be a VP contender? BUT lets see how it plays out—I reject no one at this point—Not Mormon Mitt, or Huckster Huckleberry, lets see what they say and do—If nothing else—its going to be great TV.

I’m saying that Iraq had very stingy terms it demanded of everyone that bid. State-owned oil companies were willing to agree to produce more in some bid-locations even though the more they produced could mean less profit or no profit.

Do you want to nationalize ExxonMobile as Mexico and Venezuela have nationalized their oil companies and then make ExxonMobile work on unprofitable terms as long as they increase their share, which will essentially run them into the ground as has been happening to Citgo and Pemex?

Or you think we have a right to just take Iraq’s oil?

Is that the kind of position we took with Japan and Europe after WWII? We won, now pay us??

“Who the hell is Iraq to dictate terms to us?? Hold over from The Bush POS Compassionate, win hearts and Minds Of Animals!! BS, we Need cheap Oil NOW!!”

We “need” “cheap” oil?

If that’s really the case, then who in the world can not say the same thing, other than some country with huge and easy to get to reserves in their own ground?

We “need” “cheap” oil could just as legitimately said by most of the world.

So, the U.S. has the right to just take what it wants? By what logic?

We don’t need to take oil from anyone.

We need to get to more of the oil that is under our own land and under the oceans off our shores. That’s what we need to do.

We need to convert more vehicles to natural gas, which we have a ton of, and which is pretty cheap to do.

Then we need to quit squeelling like the spoiled gasoline consumers wee have been most of our lives, and start paying retail gasoline prices closer to what most of the developed countries pay, which will, by simple market conditions, spur both more fuel efficiency by technology, and more fuel conservation by consumers, which will, over time, bring domestic fuel prices below any highs they get to in the meantime.

But first you need a WH that will make those policies, not a WH that will go start another war over oil, which is what Trump is saying would do.

You are totally off base with your “free market” analysis. American lives and treasure have been spent in Iraq. This is our down payment. In return US oil companies get first consideration and some negotiated oil development contracts that are not put out to bid. After US oil companies get some nice deals then put the rest out to bid

This is how it should have been done
There are plenty of oil companies that can be called US oil companies. They have predominately American stock holders. Meaning Americans own it. Exxon is one.

Yes. This article read as if it was written by a seventh grader. It was just horrible all the way around. Very poor for an outlet that usually has excellent writing.

Americans like what Trump has to say about Iraq owing us some billions in oil riches. It could easily have been done via Exxon getting nice fat contracts and Exxon giving half the profits to the US Treasury to defray the costs of the Iraq war

It may never happen but I know how it should have been done and so does Donald Trump.

We, as in the ones, who freed those 39 Million Ingrates,They owe a bill and can pay in Oil, We also have huge reserves of Hydrocarbons, more that anyone, what is lacking is the WILL to drill! and the enviro weenies are a big part of the problem along with the Marxist Muslim.

“If you were, you would recognize that the president’s power is limited by the Constitution. Congress created the EPA and the president can’t close it down.”

Fair enough. “On the first day of my Presidency I will call on Congress to close down the EPA, sign off on all drilling requests and other oil exploration ventures.”

Better?

Nothing worse than a populist. And Trump plays the populist tune better than anyone.

Looks like Wuli took a powder along with his noble “free market” ideas for Iraqi oil. I recall that before we went into Iraq, Dick Cheney or someone else said we would pay for the war with revenue from Saddam’s oil

Something may be “easy” to think of, “easy” to say, “easy” to imagine. That in no way makes it easy to execute, easy to achieve; or even right.

The Iraqis prefer we leave sooner than later; and that has always been their sense of things. So, by what leverage would we have obtained such a preferential deal for Exxon from the Iraqis.

It would have justified the Marxist’s claim that the war was all along to get the oil.

Politically it had no wings; here or in Iraq.

And, it still doesn’t; no matter what dreams of ego-driven power Mr. Trump thinks he has, or would have.

The only thing he’d get is another Middle East war.

So contrary to everything about U.S. official policy on Iraq and the War; and contrary to what Bush did to get and keep enough support going for the war, you and a fellow poster here are now in agreement with the position of the Marxist’s anti-war movement - we went to war to get the oil?

Too bad we get 60+ percent of our imported oil from North and South America, and at current prices that will continue to increase and continue to shrink the Middle East portion of our imports - now about 22%.

So you and Mr. Trump want to reignite the Marxist’s antiwar clarion call, that we went to war in Iraq to get their oil, when, without such a notion we are gradually decreasing our dependence on Middle East oil, and will continue to do so; withing “taking” “cheaply” any oil from Iraq, beyond what Iraq wants to sell as, at prices it is offering to everyone.

You and Mr. Trump are the Don Quixote’s of our oil issues - flaying at windmills.

Trump is correct and any poll taken will agree with him on Iraq. That the USA and USA oil compnaies should have gotten preferential consideration. It is an absolute disgrace we let the Chinese national oil company hijack what is rightfully ours. You know the Chinese do oil exploration and development in Iran and buy lots of oil from the them. Being in Iraq fits in great with that scheme

The Chinese are smarter than you. They believe in acting in their national self interest in Iraq. While you deny that to America that has spent trillions there with thousand of war dead too. China knows how the pay the geopolitical power game. You are oblivious of this because you naively worship free markets. The ChiComs do not worship free markets. They only exploit and use them when they are useful to China.
