I thought this was the job of MP's. Obama's Police State is officially here.

Like I’ve been saying, the military will obey those that give them orders, not those that pay their salary via taxes.
We’re doomed

So? What's your point? MP's do this job, not non-coms. The only reason they would have non-coms "practicing" this is for future incidents.

Well, that being said, I’ll wager $50 that the 2012 Democrat National Convention in Charlotte, NC has as part of it’s security detail a unit from the military or national guard.

You have an interesting profile. The only way any of us could be disarmed is if, indeed, the government sent the military against us. They are far too powerful for a civilian force to resist.
And you think this "Courtesy Patrol" is really a courtesy?

Or you are another hippy dopertarian that whines about the military because they embrace a life of discipline and self denial that you haven't the willpower to even contemplate.
As much as you whine about our military turning into Hitleresque thugs...you also secretly want them to do so so that they might be proven to not be as much better than you as you secretly know them to be. Much like Ron Paul and his disgusting allegation that the use of armored bulldozers and tanks fitted with plows to clear trench-lines amounted to war crimes in 1991.
All those wasted years and you are still wasted.
I do not believe for a moment that the military as a whole would support a suppression of the American people - although I realistically concede that it might splinter into fractions and some fractions might.

For the most part, I don't think our military will "fire on us" - just like the Russian military wouldn't fire on Russians. But I do believe there are factions that would. There are always sell-outs.
The real question is- why aren't the MPs out doing this? That's their job.

I think this courtesy patrol...is exactly the same as courtesy patrols of the same composition the military has always had.
They had them when I went in during the Carter administration. They had them under Reagan and Bush 41.
MPs wont recognize people from every unit on base as they asses what young rowdies may be up to. A courtesy patrol consisting of NCOs and staff NCOs from each unit is another kettle of fish - they know who is who...and who from their unit might have been supposed to be on duty or on alert that has snuck out to cat around.
There is no "There" there.
This is normal operations, not some new development.

And you think this "Courtesy Patrol" is really a courtesy? I spent over a year at Benning. The only thing the "Courtesy Patrol" is doing is policing up drunk soldiers. And it better that they do it than the MPs. With the MPs, things like lawyers, trials, Article 15s, reduction in ranks, etc. tend to pop up...

Not true. These guys are just a “presence” in downtown columbus. If they outrank someone they’re dealing with, they can order him/her back to base. And they can call the real MP’s to make arrests etc. But you gotta realize, this is a military town and some small percentage of the young bucks/bucketts will go out, have a few drinks and get fiesty. Plus, there are plenty of townies that feel the need to challange or crack-mouth the uniform when they see it.
Believe me, we love our Ft. Benning folk. And I trust the post commander a whole lot more than I trust his commander-in-chief when it comes to making ANY decisions!

This is not new. I remember in the late 70’s early 80’s MP’s patrolling around Columbus looking for the drunk soldiers in the “gentleman's clubs” restaurants, bars, etc. It is common practice to have them patrolling the cities around Military Installations

"Yeah - Like some E-3 drunk at a strip bar..."Been there, done that, wound up broke 'til payday...then do it all over again.
